This is very interesting news, and something I had never thought would happen.

Baumann was a member of TD from 1971-1977, including the Sorcerer score.

Very interesting news. At first on seeing the topic, my thought was he'd be involved in a tribute to Froese, but saying he's involved in "planing the next phase of TD" ... hmmm.

Baumann, along with Franke and Schmoelling, were no doubt missed in the later stages of the Dream's music. Froese did lead the band in creating some outstanding music in the last 20 years or so, but also some lackluster music is there, too. Like any long running band.

We'll see what happens next...

Intriguing. I was convinced the band would be disbanded after Froese's death.

Baumann is only 62 so he could surely keep it going for some years. Quaeschning/Baumann/Schnauss is indeed an interesting lineup.

What would it take to get Franke, Schmoelling etc. back, you think?

Good to see TD going on BUT I have to wonder why wait so long before rejoining? Is it that Tangerine Dream without one of the original lineup wouldn't make sense to continue cause let's be real here for a moment, Baumann left in the 70s and hasn't released any music himself since the early 80s. It seems his focus has shifted elsewhere. What I'm saying is it would have been bigger news had Franke decided to come back.

Hard to tell. Franke and Edgar Froese did not really have a very good relationship after Franke left in 1987. He has been living in Hollywood for 25 years now, but even there he hasn't been working much since 2010. I'm pretty sure he will never join TD again. He hasn't even commented on Froese's passing.

Schmoelling is playing in the group LOOM with Jerome Froese, so I guess he is concentrating on that. Very cool group by the way:

Baumann joined in 71 so he was not really in the original lineup...

In the early 90s he did the (unreleased) Blue Room project with Paul Haslinger:

Maybe Baumann needs the money? ;-)

In that regard I would have been interesting had they scored 50 Shades of Grey. big grin

I had to think when I saw the name Paul Haslinger, then remembered he did those great tracks included on FSM's Outland. Need to check out his music.

Do you mean Michael Boddicker? Haslinger was not involved in Outland.

Wasn't Peter Baumann the founder of the 'Private Music' label ?

I hope to see some unreleased stuff on CD, like 'Das Maedchen Aus Der Trappe'. Original versions that is, as a tribute to Edgar Froese. Virgin an Jive records probably have some unreleased stuff lying around !

Seemed to have mixed those two up, I don't own any Haslinger scores and I could have sworn I had that name in my collection somewhere! smile

And in regards to TD, I hope they will continue to release older material and reinterpret it as well (like they did with Sorcerer)

You're correct. Jerome Froese currently has some Private Music rarities on his website:

http://www.jeromefroese.com/

Anyone curious should check out Peter Baumann's albums; Romance `76 and Trans-Siberia. They're very evocative of Tangerine Dream's late 70s style.

I'm hoping that rarities get released but it'll be a while before they do. As for soundtracks, I doubt that the TD estate has much control over those.

I guess you mean Trans Harmonic Nights.

Romance '76 and Transharmonic Nights are classics.

Still strange that Chris Franke produced very little solo material until he left TD. "Chimes and Chains," a track on the Velvet Universe album called "Sic Transit Gloria Mundi," and his guest contribution on Mark Shreeve's "Icon" (from Legion) are about all I can think of, offhand.

And he produced a track included on the Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo soundtrack, haha.

Jerome obviously does not support this as he wrote several weeks back:

"Regarding Tangerine Dream: In the past I got asked so many times if I would carry on the TD torch or if I would continue with TD when Edgar retires and so on and my answer was always: NO!
And I'll keep it that way. Therefore, I won't support (or merge with) any kind of wannabe lineups, not now nor in the future. No tributes, no reunions, no further concerts under the name "Tangerine Dream".

People who know me in person also know that "opportunism" and "chumming up" are characteristics that I deeply abominate.

Tangerine Dream was my Dad and my Dad is dead and so is Tangerine Dream. It's that simple and it was bound to happen one day.

Thanks for listening, see you soon!

Best, Jerome"

Personally, I say let it go. Form a new group but don't try to capitalize on the TD name. Like Jerome said, Edgar WAS Tangerine Dream. It's just over. Baumann coming out now that EF has passed is a bit silly. Go make more solo albums...start up a new music label...but do it without Edgar's name.

Well, Peter and Edgar did meet up back in Dec/Jan, so they no doubt sketched a few things, but they probably mostly chatted about good times and drank oolong tea.

I do think it's funny that Jerome is issuing two compilations based on his years in TD (which altogether, sparing a dozen or so tracks, encompass the band's worst output, thanks in no small part to "TDJRome").

After Thorsten, Ulrich and Peter do record this one album, I agree it's time to retire the name...and OPEN the vaults!

Opening the vaults would be a wonderful thing, and very relevant to this board, considering just how many soundtracks could be officially released.
