I read today an article that asserted Twitter and Facebook and other social media sites seem to be in agreement that the Lady Gaga/Sound of Music bit was the best part of the Oscars.

People are giving Lady Gaga a lot of credit for that. OK, it is true, she did very well. She can really sing. But let's face it - The Sound of Music has some of the catchiest songs in all of show tunes. Songs of today rarely have a melody. And if they do, it is nothing that you can hum.

My point is that people are saying the SOM medley stood out as being special. I, for one, am glad people can still recognize good music when they hear it.

The sight of those tattoos made her a complete turn off for me.

I don't know about the "incomparable Julie Andrews"

What about the "incomparable Lady Gaga" !

The sight of those tattoos made her a complete turn off for me.

Actually, I almost agree with this. I decried her talents for ages, but have come to appreciate that she is actually a very good performer, particularly compared with the dross that gets onto the music channels most of the time.

I haven't seen the Oscars bit apart from a few short clips, during which time I really thought that they should have covered up her arms, as they stuck out like a sore thumb. If you see what I mean.
