I agree that vinyl like this is more for novelty than sound quality, but when you look at artwork such as is here on these LP sleeves, it's hard not to think that we threw the baby out with the bathwater when moving from vinyl to CD to downloads. Purely from a packaging perspective, the experience of holding the item in one's hands. Of course, few releases really need/deserve that kind of attention, but these looked very nice.

Desperation? Mondo's raking in the money! Varese, Intrada, and La-La Land are wise to compete for a piece of that pie.

I completely agree with you, but I think that they haven't chosen the right titles thus far.

Yeah, you're right there, Shaun. Nostalgia and novelty drive a lot of these vinyl sales. If, for instance, Intrada was able to put out a LP of DiCola's Transformers or Rocky IV score, those would probably do well (Transformers would flat-out kill), and that money could then help fund a re-recording of a Golden Age score for a completely different audience. Warlock is iffy, but who knows - it's horror, it's 80s, and if it's got great art and presentation, it may get the attention of some of the Death Waltz crowd. I hope so, anyway.

I just don't think something like Warlock is that well-regarded, musically or otherwise, even within our own nerd community. More power to them if it works, but I dunno, I feel like there has to be something with more potential to make them money than the titles they're going with.

No, I get it. It's an odd choice. But who knows what the choices really are. Mondo, Waxwork and others may have already snatched up the rights to release a lot of the more obvious titles at this point. All I know is it'll be a shame if anyone other than Intrada puts Red Dawn back out on LP.
