Like there was years ago by the record labels? He seems to have been forgotten. Other than the new BABY BOOM Blu-ray there hasn't been an unreleased Conti title for years. Since lately they have been few and far between, I'm going to make the most out of the BABY BOOM Blu-ray. I'm incredibly excited for it!

Could there be? Sure, why not? As happens with so many composers, once the lowest hanging fruit is picked off (meaning the scores that are reasonably easy to get the rights to, from films that are known, with easily located elements), the releases slow or stop. But I don't think the labels have "forgotten" about Conti.

I hope you get your new Conti phase, henry. I know how much he means to you.

I have the same wish for Williams. There hasn't been any unreleased material since NIGHTWATCH in 2011 (everything since then has been expansions of existing soundtracks).

I'd say the score to TOM SAWYER counts as unreleased JW material Thor.
Plus, the difference between the LaLa LOST WORLD and the awful original release is night and day, both in sound and content.

THE LOST WORLD does obviously not count, but TOM SAWYER is at the very least borderline, I'll grant you that.

Thank you Thor, that's nice of you.smileI too hope for more Williams too. Also, there is still so much great unreleased Conti. DYNASTY, FALCON CREST, 8 SECONDS, PRIVATE BENJAMIN, THE BIG BLUE, FOR KEEPS, THE SEDUCTION OF JOE TYNAN.

And never forget that all of these releases are a complicated endeavor, seeing as they all depend on the existence, availability and quality of the sound elements, the cooperation of studios and various rights' holders and the simple business fact of whether the label can turn a profit. You can't expect any of the small, niche labels to release an album that only a few people will buy with projected losses in the tens of thousands of dollars. Too many of those and the labels are out of business.

Sadly, independent of the quality of the music (I've only seen one of these, so what do I know?), it's easy to see why these have not been released, and it has nothing to do with Conti being "forgotten." Two are comedies, which we know are tough sellers. Two are television series scores, which cost more (though maybe Conti's contributions were only the pilots?). Aside from "Private Benjamin" (a comedy), none was a hit, and several were bombs.

None of which is to say these can't happen. But I'm not surprised they haven't.

I watched the Dynasty pilot through Amazon Prime some months ago (pretty sure I had never seen more than 5 minutes of the show before, and now having watched a few episodes I know why!). I have to say I really was impressed by Conti's score - one of those examples where the best thing in the show was the music. Especially the beginning, which has real room to breathe. I doubt we'll see it come out (sorry, Henry, don't mean to be a drag, but that's my take). But I would definitely buy it because I would definitely listen to it.

Reminds me of something he said in an interview I read some years ago - "I just want to write pretty music," or words to that effect.

Lordy Lord, great link Sean.
Remember when TV shows opened with music like that!!!
What kind of a world are we living in now frown
And...to think...Falcon Crest is even better smile

Every Norwegian my age knows DYNASTY, because it was shown on Norwegian telly when we only had one channel back in the 80s. It's a classic series over here (so is FALCON CREST, btw). I used to watch it with my mom, before I went to bed.

I can't remember much of the music outside the famous theme, but here's an 'analysis' I did of that theme back when I was a university student (the prose clearly reflects that):

For the millionth time, expansions ARE unreleased material. Hence the wording, "expansion". wink

Well, whatever one's listening preferences, they are unquestionably unreleased material. What they are not is completely unreleased scores (though occasionally, they do feature completely unreleased themes, as in the La La Land "A.I.").

OK...potatoe, potato.

It's still a fact that all John Williams archival soundtracks since NIGHTWATCH in 2011 have been expansions of existing soundtracks. I'd count TOM SAWYER in that too, because even though the original album didn't have any of the score proper, it nonetheless had an ALBUM. So that's SIX years since a premiere release. A bit depressing.

I would love a new Williams score, believe me. But we now know that he doesn't want "Story of a Woman" out (which joins "The Sugarland Express" and, I'm sure, others), and there really aren't that many that haven't seen some release. Happily, there are some new scores coming.

Also, what's a "potatoe"?

Oh, there is still very, very much left to release:

(the TV stuff alone counts hundreds of episodes).

Yes yes, but how much of that is extant?

Who knows?

I know it's unlikely, but it would have been awesome to hear from one of the specialty labels if they've looked into any of these titles.

Same goes for Henry's Conti requests, I guess (so as not to hijack his thread any further).

Wait! What!
I know about Sugarland, but when was it confirmed that JW is sitting on a release of Story of a Woman?
I thought it was all about missing tapes.
