If you, James -- who know this score intimately -- were to select a 50-minute program from these 100 minutes, what tracks would you choose? James can't do that for you. He's lived and familiarized himself with that score intimately for months on end, and it would be like asking a parent to "discard" half of his "children." I'm afraid that the only person who can make that "personal" selection is you, Thor. Try eliminating the (glorious) first track and the final suite (sacrilege!) and build up your suite from the film score proper as follows: Listen to the 2 discs again, one track at a time, and not necessarily in sequence. Start by eliminating one-by-one tracks that you might not wish to listen to again. Then program the remainder, tally up the total timing, and listen again and see what else you may wish to eliminate. You will actually begin to familiarize yourself with the complexity of the score, and appreciate the recording more. When you have finally constructed your personal 50-minute suite, listen to the two suites that open and close the 2CD set that you eliminated at the beginning of the process, and see if your 50-minute suite compares favourably with each of those suites. Yes, it's work, but in the end it's also musically rewarding. Who knows, you might suddenly realize that the whole score as it exists on CD is the one that you would want to listen to on a regular basis. BTW, when James says he was "taking the Michael," he wasn't referring to urination , but merely teasing, as in "taking the piss out of" an unreasonable request.
