Bad news I'm afraid, SAE shipping rates on Amazon.co.uk has increased from £1.56 to £8.82 for UK delivery. Just awful.

Disappointing news. To be fair to them, the continual rise in shipping rates must have meant they were starting to sell stock at a loss. They had to ship stuff to the UK at high cost and the UK customer only paid £1.26. We're probably lucky we had this avenue for so long. Oh well.

On the plus side, they weren't listing anything new there anyway - it was just some very old titles.

I think they never fully stocked their store on Amazon (uk). There were certain FSM titles that were available on their eBay storefront, but not on their Amazon (uk) storefront.

Ok, wow, just priced up shipping at La La Land and realised that to order 3 titles (a single cd and 2 double cds) will now cost me $25 which is getting insane! Once again I'm not criticising the labels, I know it's completely out of their control and probably hurts them more than it hurts us. Are any of the European retailers cheaper or does the mark up on the CDs make it about even? How do most Europeans here order their CDs from the US?

And I have a question for the labels themselves, have you had success in shipping to Tanzania or have many things got lost in the post? I'm mostly based here at the moment but am very wary of getting things sent here so sharing any experience you have with shipping would be most appreciated.

I general focus on acquiring OOP CDs from these boards. Maybe check http://www.soundtrackcorner.de/, however the newer titles listed on the website will reflect the higher costs of shipping etc.

I'm in the UK and the mark ups make it about even.

Last year I took a dead cheap holiday to the US and got my CDs through the domestic post. I will do the same later this year.

International shipping is a big deterrend. I still order CDs from the US, but like many here, tend to wait until there are several CDs within an order. It's a real bummer it's gotten so expensive. It's not going to stop me from buying a CD I really want, but it sure may tip the scale when it comes to those "on the fence" releases.

I worked out that the Alien 3 new release from La La Land that i really want to buy will be about £40 after shipping and taxes to me in Canada. Can't afford that and would never pay it if i could. Damn shame for me. Unless i get a massive tax rebate.

Anyone who wants lower shipping prices for CDs can send the following letter to the President and to the U.S. Postal Service. I never got a response to any of these letters.

Trump Tower
725 5th Ave.
New York, NY
10022
U.S.A.

Dear Mr. President-Elect:

I am writing this letter to complain about extremely slow delivery of letters from Canada to the U.S.A. It's taking 4 weeks or more for the U.S.P.S. to deliver my letter mail to the U.S.A. if it even arrives.

They are consistently losing 50% of my lettermail to the U.S.A. When I called their Int'l Dept. at 1-800-222-1811 to complain and request compensation the employee Christine and her manager Cathy (Kathy?) were extremely unhelpful and refused to take down any zip code information for a reliability/performance audit and refused to provide me with compensation in the form of free stamps.

Their postal and parcel prices to Canada are also far too high and you need to significantly lower them. You need to bring back low cost surface parcel and newspaper delivery to Canada. You need to seriously improve the speed and reliability of delivery of all mail and parcels to and from Canada. Please take away their postal monopoly by allowing private courier companies to compete on an equal basis for letter, newspaper and parcel delivery with the U.S.P.S.

Sincerely,

United States Postal Service
Office of the Vice President
Consumer and Industry Affairs
475 L'Enfant Plaza, S.W.
Room 4115
Washington, D.C.
20260-2200
U.S.A.

I suspect Big Streaming is at play here. Follow the bitcoin.

  • I don't know, but I'm sure many here will cry about it.

Fret not. I'm sure that, to justify the hike, someone orders a CD and the warehouse comes with it.

Has noone noticed this outside the US, when any-one has challenged Trump the dollar seems to drop, quite drastic sometimes, not long ago it was just over 68p-1$

Adding the change to SAE's custom policy to this which was posted by Stovepipe46

"Here! Here! I've always bought from Screen Archives as they have always offered reasonable shipping charges (Intradas charges are ridiculous) and have had good service from them but things seemed to have changed. I have always asked for them to declare a nominal valley on the customs declaration of $20 on my orders and the have complied but my last order to them they declared $41.90 as a result my order was held up for a week by UK Customs and when it was delivered I had an additional £11.60 to pay.
I'll have to look elsewhere for my orders, probably Music Box records in France or Elite Soundtracks in the UK but thay are slow and expensive."

To ask a dealer to lie on the customs declaration is effectively asking them to break the law, so one can hardly complain if they don’t do that! The authorities do seem to be tightening up on small parcel exports. Amazon US now only ship to the UK with customs import charges included where applicable. Better get used to it.

That's bad but still a more or less reasonable charge. For a 40 USD order, I've just had to pay 32 EUR customs charges (includes handling), so basically double the amount.

I had no idea. I thought it was an Amazon typo till I found this thread.
Being in Europe buying FSM CD's through SAE's Amazon UK store was one way to avoid import taxes since the UK is part of the European Union at least technically for the time being. Bought multiple CD's from SAE on Amazon UK in the past.
Wanted to get some more FSM CD's today. I could not believe the shipping rate increase. No way I will do this. Awful is the least I can say. From £1.82 to £8.82. Nearly a 400% shipping increase per CD!. Are you kidding me.

Would it be cheaper for the overseas people to find someone in the U.S.A. that can order their discs, then they ship them over to the foreign friend(s) and declare a value of $3.00 for as many CD's as is in the box, plus mark it as a GIFT? Is that the final solution since shipping is going up year by year.

My post from another topic, but it's still relevant.

"as it has nothing to do with SAE, they are simply following the rules, that they have kindly dodged for us for a long time.

Also, for those, like me, not in the USA there are some tricks that may work.

As stated order from Amazon & save the “broker fee” which I personally think is a giant cash grab con, but then what say do we have it the matter.

Or make friends with a person in the USA, see if they want to have your delivery & have them put a new customs label on it for say “Used CDs value $1 Gift”. If your paying them with Pay Pal make sure you cover the PP fees or the person will be out of pocket on the re-mailing costs. No idea if internal mail in the USA & then onto you works out or not, but International Customs can only charge against the declared amount or against an invoice packed with the goods. So, make your USA contact happy & maybe that will help.

Finally batch up your orders, the “broker fee” can only be charged once, so although you have tax on the entire package, the fee is only charged once. I.E. a $200 order to the UK has 20% + 8 (UK pounds) but so does a $19.99 order have 20% + 8 (UK pounds). Makes sense to have a larger order & one “broker fee”.

I do option three with blu rays from Australia, wait for a large batch & then a 1 off fee + Canadian duties, if it is not on Amazon Canada & I buy from say Amazon USA or UK or Germany, I pay the duty but no “broker fee” & so saves $18 Canadian dollars (fee + tax).

Folks taxes are here to stay & it’s no fault of SAE or Varese or any label, it’s down to your individual governments & mail companies, Canada Post grab every penny they can & I am sure Royal Mail do as well.
    Fact of life.

Enjoy your music despite the taxes"

    Regards

    Andy b
