Roger says

Mid-80s (mostly) action score features a re-issue of earlier Intrada release that was a quick sell out. But while that release was taken from a transfer of the composer's 1/4" copy of the score, this release features a new mastering from the first-generation multi-tracks housed in the studio vaults, providing a more detailed, crisper presentation, correcting a few pitch issues and featuring bonus tracks from composer's family member.

That "(mostly)" part has me intrigued but stumped.

Esteemed JWFanner Disco Stu (known as Disco Stud around these parts) figured it out.

It must be Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins from 1985, which featured a 2011 Intrada album sourced from a 1/4" composer copy of the score and sold out in 2 days.

Maybe, though it would be the fourth release of this score (not unheard of these days). Still, what would "Mid-80s (mostly)" mean in this case? Also, I took the bonus tracks from the composer's family member to suggest that the composer was no longer alive, though I realize that assumption wouldn't hold up in a court of law.

Important note: I know nothing.

"(mostly)" modified the "action" part of the sentence, not the "mid-80s" part.

I read it as "(mostly) action score" but I've no idea!

Edit- Just beaten to it!

Yeah, I took the family member comment as the composer is no longer with us.
Making me think of Poledouris or Horner or Kamen.

Sure, the clue first made me think of Red Dawn by Basil Poledouris and Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend by Jerry Goldsmith, but neither prior Intrada edition was sourced from 1/4" from the composer.

Schiff will be sure to correct me, but maybe a comma after Mid-80s would have helped clarify what the parenthetical was referring to.

A quick look at other "1/4"" composer sourced scores released by Intrada (you can do your own work to narrow down if they fit the clues; I know some are obvious -- this is just a listing):

"The Moneychangers" (Mancini)
"Candleshoe" (Goodwin; also sourced from Disney tapes, too)
"Strange Invaders" (Addison)
"This Girl for Hire" (Broughton)
"George Washington II: The Forging of a Nation" (Broughton)
"Comes a Horseman" (Small)
"The Forgotten" (Rosenthal)
"Blow Out" (Donaggio)
"White Lighting" (Charles Bernstein)

I'm sure there are others, but I stopped after about a dozen pages.

I was thinking the bonus tracks by family member is that perhaps another way to say that the family member wrote some additional music? If that`s the case then I immediately think of Jerry Goldsmith and Joel Goldsmith or perhaps Elmer Bernstein and Peter Bernstein or something like that.

Much as I’d like to correct you, I agree!

(Mostly) action does make a lot more sense that (mostly) 80s, and I feel dumb for not realizing that. Even so, aren’t pretty much all action scores (mostly) action? I mean, even “Total Recall” has introspective moments.

Does Intrada have Aliens from Varese?

- Mid 80s
- Mostly an action score (although partly Horror / cheap scares are prevalent)
- They Mostly Come Out At Night... Mostly...
- There were some interesting mastering issues with the Deluxe Edition (although it is superb overall).

Never mind, Intrada didn't release it, and it wasn't in 1/4".

Does Craig Safan have any musical family members that may have sort of contributed to the score?

Bonus tracks from a family member may simply mean he or she provided alternative tape sources, not necessarily that he or she composed stuff.

The wording is ambiguous.
