I finally watched this movie for the first time! Not a bad movie; enjoyable for the most part. The score by Horner is really spine tingling in some scenes. The current CD contains all of the cues as far as I can tell. The performances in the film are subtly different: "Lillian's Heart Attack" sounds "less" violent in the film than on the album. I think a re-issue with the film tracks + album tracks is overdue.

I have no problem with an album that has the album recording and the film cues re-mastered. Varese has done this on a number of albums now (Damien - Omen II, The Fury and Hawaii) and this really is the best way to present those scores.

Yes, count me in for this approach. I never got the Varese album because it was so expensive, wouldn't mind a proper deluxe version.

This is also a case where the original album and the score would probably both fit on one disc, like Damien or Bullitt.

Yes, YOR want it: complete original recordings togheter with the re-recording.

That's the only way to go with movie scores.

Count me in for a release of both complete score and album. Though doesn't Varese own the album rights?

I wouldn't turn it down, but as I recall there isn't all that much additional music and the soundtrack recording is quite good, but the re-recording is performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and who are understanding on this recording.

so, if this is all we got, we're in pretty good shape.

Yes, the rerecording with the LSO is outstanding, but YOR realy likes the original recording sessions for all scores.

So where are we on this today after so many discussions? I think it would be great to have either of the recordings the Original film version or the re-recording. Or Both on same disc. The old Varese album is OOP and its a seminal yet original score from Horner' s prime days. Either ways it deserves to be back in print.

I'd prefer a remastering of Lifeforce, by Henry Mancini.

I thought the double cd BSX reissue was remastered..

That comment was made in 2003.

IMHO, It would be a waste of time and resources.

There really isn't that much more music in the film that didn't appear on the album to start with and all of the highlights of the score appear on the album re-recording performed by the LSO conducted by Horner and IMHO it's as good, if not better then the OST recording.

They'd be far better of releasing something that hasn't seen the light of day.

Agreed... the album is terrific the way it is, one of the best Horner scores ever. Perfect.
Sure, die hard fans may want to have the film tracks as well (they sound differently), though ultimately, the LSO performance is flawless.

It appears to be out of print though, so a re-release would be welcome for everyone who doesn't own it yet.

Anyone know which orchestra performed the film tracks? This and Glory are my top most wanted complete.

I agree. Leave Brainstorm as is (with all of it's Goldsmith obeissance). The one James Horner score I wouldn't mind seeing released is Something Wicked This Way Comes. Maybe it's been done already but I can't remember. It's full of much of the promise Horner showed early in his career... before he became "Horner".

was released by Intrada 2009. there was a release of the George Delerue version as well - PLUS both versions on one CD

Absolutely. Film score on one CD and OST on the other.

A deluxe edition that contains both the complete film recording and the rerecording would be splendid.
The subtle differences in the recordings would be well worth a deluxe edition.

Considering Kritzerland released the exact same Gorky Park recordings twice on the same disc, I don't think anyone would object to having two even barely different versions of Brainstorm.

Shaun, I was thinkng exactly the same thing. And it would all easily fit on 1 cd.
