Am I the only member of this forum who hasn't seen this yet?

It's no "Ben-Hur,"* but it's worth a look . . .

(*Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, etc. . . .)

Josh, you haven't seen it yet? I would think it's right up your alley. It's a totally outrageous, satirical, in your face movie for sure. I went with some friends to see it when it came out and we never laughed so hard at a movie in years. If you knew the folks I went with you probably wouldn't think that a sometimes juvenile, offensive by design movie like this would be to their liking as a couple are medical doctors/research scientists, a couple are IT gurus of the highest order and yet we all loved it. Of course we're all a bunch of intellectual renegades so you have to take that into consideration!

Anyway, most of the songs are hilarious spoofs of songs or styles of songs we've come to love, or loath in this case. And of course I love the puppet shows of Gerry Anderson and they spoof some of the things from those shows such as the inability to make them walk convincingly. It very much goes the Monty Python route in being an equal opportunity offender. It attacks the right equally as much as the left. Give it a spin, it's a perverse delight, although comedy is a very subjective thing.

This should get you watching it:
I didn't see it in the cinema so when the DVD was on sale. I bought it because I love Gerry Anderson´s series and "Starfleet". I really love those special effects.
Even at bargain basement sale price, I feel I was had. What a piece of junk. Attack the people who made a stand against Bush and his warmachine, add extremely juvenile profanities and you have Team America. "America fuck yeah" hell no. "The makers of Team America fuck yeah" up their rectums with a stiff wired brush for putting out this piece of junk.
Totally rubish film but at least my desk no longer wobbles as I have found a new use for the DVD.

It seems that I didn't actually say what I thought of the film... but Leonard Maltin said it for me: "Heavy-handed, sour, and worst of all, not funny."

I adore this picture.

It’s a brilliant satire that spares nobody, short-sighted nationalists and naïve bleeding hearts alike.

Also, it’s an incredible lecture on the power of moving pictures. These puppet characters couldn’t be any cheesier and more artificial, by choice. And yet, and also by choice (and by talent), there were some moments where I simply couldn’t escape the power of their suggestive emotional force, and couldn’t believe that I would actually feel emotion over the soapy lines delivered from some ridiculous plastic kissers.

Great picture, in my opinion.

He didn't get the point.

The same way that women don't get the joke when they are being harrassed.

("We're guards. Yeah, we're guards. we're guards.")

"Derka-derk, jihad, Sherpa-sherpa-sherpa!"

The music was brilliant! Harry Gregson-Williams' over the top score was perfect for the film. I nearly fell out of my seat laughing at the beginning when we first see the Arab terrorists. It's all nice and cutesy and then the utterly dramatic, Black Hawk Down-ish Middle Eastern music kicks in. The score itself is a parody of The Rock and Armageddon, with Sinbad antics thrown in. Oh, and can't forget the stereotypical Pearl Harbor/Last Samurai Asian music for Kim Jong Il. The best part had to have been the Star Wars cantina-inspired bit, comparing Arabs to aliens

And the songs are hilarious. My vote goes to "America, Fuck Yeah!!" for the Oscar. And I'd love to see the look on the faces of Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, and Alec Baldwin when it's played big grin

Watched this again recently and could not agree more with the sentiment expressed above. Fantastic film with brilliant songs and a very enjoyable score by HGW.

Would have been interesting to see what Silvestri would have brought: http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=22666&forumID=1&archive=1

Shame there was no sequel. Would love to hear new songs by Parker and Stone like the ones for Team America.

It's funny now to hear the score in hindsight, realizing that Steve Jablonsky contributed "additional music" and went on to be Michael Bay's regular composer. You can hear shades of what would become Bad Boys 2 and Transformers several times throughout the score!

Since he was NEVER involved hard to say. Shaiman on the other hand did a fine score and the songs he was involved with are still in the film.

Now if only some label would/could release Shaiman's score (at least about sixty minutes recorded), I'd be happy. And then move on to his other tossed scores.

That would be nice. I was gobsmacked to find out he scored INSPECTOR GADGET (likely because of his GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE) before being replaced by John Debney.
