Everyone has their favorite instruments when it comes to music themes and one of mine is the Harpsichord. From Danger Man to the Third Man the Harpsichord has been one of my favorite
instruments for Movie and TV theme interpretations. Do you have some favorite themes or music on this instrument?

Any Brass instrument, one of my favorite cues is The Inner City from Star Wars.
That Brass part is just fantastic and the gunbarrel from FYEO.

See this old thread for people's favourite instruments:

As far as the harpschicord is concerned....I don't know. Newton Howard's RESTORATION, perhaps? Or the quasi-baroque use by Williams in things like THE PAPER CHASE.

ADDAMS FAMILY springs immediately to mind, by the amazing Vic Mizzy. Also the Clare Quilty theme by Nelson Riddle from LOLITA, which he later transformed into the villain theme most commonly associated with The Riddler on the BATMAN tv show. And THE PERSUADERS theme by John Barry, which is my favorite single piece of music by him. Also love FAMILY PLOT by John Williams, which is high on my want list of scores that need releasing or at least rerecording.

Seven Women - Elmer Bernstein

(where I think the harpsichord is associated with lesbianism).

There's some nice Harpsichord material written for Papillon and Interview with the Vampire.

Logied,
The Third Man was a zither not a harpsichord.Apparently Anton Karas was seen,by Trevor Howard and one other, playing the instrument outside a cafe. And the rest is history.

Why, the MISS MARPLE THEME - that's the most famous of all harpsichord themes, I guess...

Previn's DEAD RINGER.

Bang on Shureman, this is a GREAT score that badly needs a CD release.

Anyone know who owns it?

Alex North's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfe".

The Battle of Agincourt in Walton's "Henry V".

John Addison throughout "Tom Jones", especially in the wonderful opening segment.

I believe a harpsichord (electronics?)is also used by Barry in "The Lion in Winter".

While one association for harpsichords was mentioned, it seems that harpsichords are also used where an "antique" sound is wanted. This seems to be often, but not always, coupled with the requirement for a "refined" sound.

Does the Get Carter theme use a harpsichord? If so, that wins for me. I have no idea about musical instruments. Too technical for me.

The harpsichord work in JACK THE RIPPER by Pete Rugolo and Jimmy McHugh is wonderful.
Combined with the brass, it has a driving demonic feel about it.

I think Johnny Mandel used it in his wonderful Deathtrap score.
