And it's wonderful, the set arrived this morning, it looks and sounds magnificent.

When I finally stop shaking, I'll be able to listen to some more of it.

Film music release of the year?

No.

The Decade.

Had another quick listen, Overture and Main Title....fabulous, the end title version of Smitty Returns / Tennessee Babe – Lisa is a revelation, the whole thing sounds like everyone involved was enjoying the experience, the only downside is that due to licensing restrictions there are no stills from the film in the booklet, but what the hell, it's the music I've waited for and that is fantastic.

Congratulations to PROMETHEUS RECORDS & TADLOW MUSIC for bringing this epic score to life.

Ahhh...........anymore in the pipeline?

Hi Niall, you're in for a treat when this arrives, I've managed to get through the entire album today and I really believe it's the best thing that Tadlow has done.

There's bound to be someone who complains (there always is) that such and such a track is the wrong speed or doesn't sound quite right.

Personally I think that this is PERFECT.

I'm reasonably familiar with the score from record and cd and those well known previously released tracks are spot on, the whole score takes you right back into the film, it's a truly wonderful listening experience.

I loved El Cid, but I reckon that this even tops that masterpiece, truly magnificent.

I'll say it again congratulations and thankyou to PROMETHEUS RECORDS & TADLOW MUSIC for giving us this wonderful score in all it's glory.

I thought Exodus was the finest yet ... even better than El Cid, maybe it's just that I like the Exodus main theme.

In my opinion this is even better than Exodus and I love Exodus, always have, it's been one of my favorite themes since childhood and a score that I wanted for years, the Tadlow recording was tremendous and went to number one in my collection.

I still think after listening to the entire score though that The Alamo has the edge.

Extraordinary that no-one has directly complimented Nic Raine yet (in either thread on this subject as far as I can see). Plenty of praise for Tadlow and Prometheus, but I would have thought Raine deserves specific and even primary credit, just as a Stromberg or Gerhardt would in the same circumstances. Indeed, the same goes for other magnificent works Raine has conducted recently – everyone is so busy lauding "Tadlow" they fail to give Raine the massive personal dues he deserves.

It's hardly disrespected to Nic Raine, who has been working for so many years with James Fitzpatrick so he became part of the "Tadlow team" - the same could probably be said about the Jan Holzner who also hasn't been mentioned so far if I haven't missed anything...

Mine dropped on the mat about 10 minutes ago (actually while I was reading this thread) so I'm looking forward to a Tiomkin afternoon.

Mukan98-drop me an email. I didn't realise we were in the same profession.

I just finished my 1st listen to all 3 cd's and agree with you Chris, the recording is totally amazing from beginning to end, even rivaling EL CID which is one of my favourite re-recordings of anything.

Well done to Nic Raine,Jimmy and everybody else involved in this.

Absolutely Outstanding!

Quite a job, and thanks!

Personally when I back up *important* music's, I found Foobar 2000 to be the most accurate.
I used all the regulars for El Cid, and EAC, Itunes, missed out on some of the spatial and fine definitions. Foobar is a bit primitive, but convert to WAV it is spot on most of the time (I don't recommend burning with it)

I'm off the track here...but I can't wait for my set! First ever owned soundtrack, and well it's my favorite. What childhood memories can do for a lifetime.

I couldn't agree more about 1st owned soundtracks. My 1st was Goldfinger aged around 5 I think (I nagged parents into submission), this was followed by Thunderbirds are Go (film soundtrack) and Zulu.
I'm pretty sure The Alamo however was the 1st Tiomkin album I owned and I did seek out LP's with his name on regardless of if I knwe the film and music or not.

I doubt youngsters who start collecting modern scores today will be able to have such great memories in 40 years time.

I think The Alamo is Dimitri's materpiece personally and if its your favourite score then you are certainly in for a treat with this new recording!

Dave, glad to know someone else bought Thunderbirds Are Go, the Zero X theme has always been a favorite of mine.

Back to The Alamo, what did you think of the alternate End Title?

Great music but I can't see that it would have worked in the film as well as the one that we are used to.

What a fabulous recording this is.
