Hi, on the "resurrected" (ha!) HAUNTED PALACE/ PREMATURE BURIAL thread, there's a link to a shop in Valencia, Spain - "Rosebud". I'd heard of this place before but have never done business with them. Anyway, I must admit that browsing their website doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Their pricing seems very erratic (the old "Best" LONELY ARE THE BRAVE is more expensive than the legit release), and, apart from "borderline" boots like the aforementioned Goldsmith, they also seem to have some stuff which made me raise an eyebrow. But they also seem to stock most of the new releases from all the labels.

Anyway, I'll get to the point. If you have had any dealings with Rosebud, please post your thoughts here. On some items it seems to be a good option for me, but only if they're up-front and reliable. Thanks in advance!

I've ordered twice and they always delivered in a timely manner and there was nothing to complain about. I'd say: go for it if it's an option.

If it were not for the severe shipping fees (even to near Euro countries), i'd purchase from them more often.

I've used them three or four times. Prompt shipping, no problems at all.

I notice they list the composers' index in alphabetical order of their first names (so Goldsmith is under "J"), which is a bit odd. Otherwise I quite enjoy browsing their site once in a while.

Yeah, I ordered a couple of times from them. It's good. shipping is always a bit expensive from Spain because they tend to send everything registered. I guess they don't trust the postal service. The owner releases scores on his own label (Saimel), Spanish composers like Nieto and Morricone too. Mind you, completely legal. He's good.

This reflects my experience with them as well. I haven't bought anything recently but I used to buy Spanish soundtracks from them. SAE sells the Saimel releases now so I don't have to pay the expensive registered mail anymore. But occasionally I see something on their website I don't see anywhere else. Yes, they are honest and reliable.

Also, carefully read his payment instructions before sending a Paypal payment. After you send the order he will send you an invoice. Wait for his invoice before sending payment. I recall having a mixup because I paid right away, before getting the invoice.

Hello.

They are a fantastic store. I've purchased dozens times from them and always fantastic service. They always reply mails with a human sense, fast delivery and well packaged.

To pick up CD as Spanish (Saimel, Quartet, JMB, Meliam...), Italian (GDM, Digitmovies, Hill Side...) or from others countries (Milan, Silva, Alhambra, Universal France...) they are the cheapest option, always with the most cheapest price.

Aside sellers and producers, they are great film music lovers with blog, podcast, always assisting to any european film concert, making interviews to composers, producing also Film Music Books... no doubt about buy from them smile

Regards,
Raul

Thanks to all for your replies so far. As I'm in Spain, postage is cheaper than if I were in another place, which in some cases balances out the (generally) more expensive cover price. Keep posting your observations - I'm not making any decisions yet.

Here in France (and I believe anywhere outside Spain), Intermezzo might be a best overall deal: each item costs averagely 1 euro more but the global shipping fee is nicer

(see also soundtrackmaniacs, beat or onlyscore for items not available from intermezzo)

Gee, I wonder what would happen if, say, BSX would openly sell all these bootlegs as well.

Strange world !

SAE is selling The Last Valley by John Barry released in Luxembourg on Tickertape (for $ 29.95). Is that legit? Maybe in Luxembourg...

Thanks for those other options, morrifan.

Yeah, Rosebud's boots stick out a mile (doesn't that sound funny?), but there may be legal loopholes I'm unaware of.

CDs like this one:
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
are boots anywhere in the world! No loopholes.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot: No links to boots!

My experience is similar to others expressed here (and as I've mentioned elsewhere, on the thread about the Jesse Stone soundtrack). Bought there twice, amazingly fast service, and I actually didn't think the postage was too bad, considering. No reason to distrust them so far. I think they're good. Both times I bought very hard to find scores ("Marie de Nazareth" and "Jesse Stone: Stone Cold") at reasonable prices, and have seen neither title at reasonable prices anywhere else since!

no links OK, but could you please name the score: I'd like to know what I should avoid

Starship Troopers Complete has to be a bootleg.

Looking at the cover it seems to me that one edition of Hisaishi's Spirit Away is a bootleg from Taiwan or South Korea (K-O Records and similar).

Probably you can find more.

I am not sure about Alien (2CDs) (non the Intrada one) or the complete score from Mulan.

Is the site having problems? I've tried to register for an account for weeks, but when I try I just get a syntax error. Same with other browsers.

http://www.rosebudbandasonora.com/catalog/

They're listing Varese's new Haunting CD in the new releases so they must still be active.

So I've been using the Rosebud store for seven years! Great service, never had any problem, and when I did (once) have a small complaint they immediately phoned me to explain what had happened.

litefoot, I don't know what the problem could be with the syntax error. But they are most definitely still active. I was in touch with them just a few days ago to order some stuff, and they replied immediately. Package should be on its way. Have you tried emailing them?

Nope, thought I'd get a quicker answer here, and so it has proved. Thank you. I will email them as well.
