It's just progression of technology Andy, it happens to everything. In fact I feel lucky to have worked the final 10 years of 35mm and then seen in the beginning of the next step of cinema presentation. Also it can't hurt my job hunting that I left my previous job because it doesn't exist anymore.
In the case of Dave working for Universal. That's a pretty big honour and I know I would've given my left nut to get further into the world of film making. He's going to see some cool stuff and meet some very talented people.
whatever happens in the job now, it sounds as though you've got a lot of fond memories from your time in it and that's a great thing for anyone in any career. I do remember having to sit and watch the print of bloody Pearl Harbor spin around on the platter for three hours on the sold out, first Saturday night as it had static problems and wanted to wrapround. So digital isn't all bad

I did the UK premiere of said film...possibly the loudest, worst film I've ever showed...even digital wouldn't have saved it.
Congrats! Definitely the move to make. Even though I work one day a week now I hit 40 years last month. As long as there is some celluloid out there....
Thanks Henry..I haven't run any 35mm for at least 2 years now but I know what you mean. Coming to LA in the next couple of months to see Nick Redman & the Burlingame's so maybe we can hook up for a beer?
How fantastic, 'Woofers' got an award and it couldn't go to a more deserving man. I miss working with him and thought of him today as I battled certain technical issues at work. Well done Mark.
i gotta tell ya'.... i like the fact that i can wait a couple of weeks to see THE DARK KNIGHT and know the 'print' will be as good as at the first screening. bruce
