I had written... A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (Fox) -- As confirmed by zooba, Varese only released half of this lovely score on their Goldsmith at Fox box. Multiple lovely cues are unreleased, including this brief one he put on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iCdZRXGipI&feature=youtu.be Anna and the King (Fox) -- while 16 minutes were included on the Varese Fox Box, they were from three episodes and that fact combined with some comments in the liner notes make me suspect Goldsmith recorded more for this series, which hopefully will be released complete in the future...my money's on Intrada pairing it with A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. ...turns out I was wrong in my decade-old bet about Intrada doing it (I had thought it was their obvious next pairing after The Detective/Von Ryan's Express and Shock Treatment/Fate Is the Hunter)! Instead LLL has picked up the baton with significant expansions of both scores, doubling the number of cues from A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and more than doubling the amount of music for Anna and the King. The three scores Goldsmith wrote for the latter are now SO much more fleshed out, and it's especially amazing to finally get the complete "March of the Royal Children" cue at last! In addition, LLL is premiering Goldsmith's scores for two unsold pilots (which were so obscure when I made my first post that I didn't even list them a decade ago) -- Prudence and the Chief, a western retelling of the Anna and the King story done two years before the Yul Brynner series he scored... and Only in America. And I'm still waiting for Intrada to start another Goldsmith kickstarter campaign - the COMPLETE "In Harm's Way" (including the scoring with the Hammond Solovox keyboard that was used in the climatic battle scenes). I think that's a GREAT idea, especially since it's Douglass Fake's favorite Goldsmith score (tied with Lonely Are the Brave). And you know what? Comparing the cues of the original written score in the Herrick Library with everything Intrada was able to release on their most recent expanded chronological version... I think there's a LOT more music that Goldsmith wrote for this film, which went unused within it. I had written: Hollow Man (Varese / Sony Pictures) -- It'd be wonderful to get an official CD release of this last Goldsmith/Verhoeven collaboration, though it is one of the earliest examples of a Goldsmith isolated score release, and I believe may be the only example of Goldsmith recording an audio commentary for a home video release. I had written, L.A. Confidential (Varese / Warner Bros.) -- The complete score was available on an isolated score track with the film, but I suspect Varese will expand this on CD sooner or later, because it was one of Goldsmith's most prestigious projects of the 90s, netting him an Oscar nomination. Hi I don't often post questions here, but do we know if any further volumes are planned in La La's Goldsmith at 20th Century Fox series? I originally skipped Vols. 1 and 2 due to duplication of titles I already had (insert jokes about The Blue Max here) but picked up with Volume 3 and the more recent volume of TV music (Vol. 5). I've decided that I *really* like the way the set looks on my shelf so I have now added Vols. 1, 2 and 4 (and I'm glad I did), but I have been wondering if any more are in the pipeline? Thanks SG

I still haven't picked up Vol. 1, though I'm kinda tempted to because I've heard there were a few further sound tweaks done over the previous (surprisingly good-sounding) LLL edition. And my OCD side will probably always be bugged to have the later volumes but not Vol. 1, curse it... Vol. 2 added one previously-unreleased cue to The Flim-Flam Man... so Goldsmith nut that I am, already a must-have. Vol. 3 included the premiere of Jerry's great finale cue from Flaming Star, and a significant expansion of SPYS (which I love) so a must-have too. Vol. 4 didn't look like a must-have at first blush, but the Chris Malone restoration of Ace Eli is NIGHT AND DAY improvement compared with the FSM edition, so it ended up being a huge must-have too. I didn't really like the score much at all in the FSM and pretty much never listened to that album. But in the Malone restoration for LLL I actually enjoy the score as a listening experience now. How is that significant for our purposes? Varese isn't even owned by UMG as far as I understand; only distributed by them. UMG actually owns the Decca/Philips/Deutsche Grammophon/Polydor catalogues...and since the more recent acquisition of EMI, also that catalogue including Capitol/Virgin as well. Concord Music Group bought Varese but as far as I understand it Concord is also just distributed by UMG. Yavar

The Blue Max I should probably mention that the presentation of the entire film score plus alternates on one disc (Disc 2) makes it possible to program the "full" version of The Attack (Track 29) in place of the film edit (Track 9) without having to stop and change discs! That was the clincher for me... SG

At last! THE SIX MONTH JERRY GOLDSMITH CD DROUGHT HAS ENDED! I had written, "City Hall -- I think this score is somewhat underrated and deserves expansion. It's another "modern noir" sounding Goldsmith score, so gets overshadowed by L.A. Confidential, but I actually like it better as an album.
