Michael Giacchino is set to reunite with Lana and Andy Wachowski on their upcoming sci-fi action tentpole Jupiter Ascending. The film stars Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, Tuppence Middleton and Sean Bean. The movie is set in a time where humans are at the bottom of the evolutionary ladder and are watched by higher forms of life and follows a woman who has been targeted for assassination by the Queen of the Universe. The Wachowskis are writing, producing and directing the Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures production, which is set to shoot this spring. Giacchino has previously collaborated with the Wachowskis on the 2008 feature Speed Racer. Jupiter Ascending is currently in pre-production and is expected to be released in 2014.

Giacchino is currently recording his score for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness. The movie is scheduled to be released on May 17, 2013 by Paramount Pictures.

I'm surprised that Warner Bros. still has faith in The Wachowskis after two expensive flops and an box office underperformer in The Matrix Revolutions. If Warner Bros. wasn't obsessed with losing money (seriously, look at all of their money losers since 2000), they would have severed ties with the two years ago.

It's cool to see him reunite with the Wachowskis. I adore his Speed Racer score and hope he'll come up with an equally brilliant soundtrack.

Hope this means he's too busy for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (He also has a Sci-Fi movie for Brad Bird) and Doyle comes back.

What? I never heard anything about this. I thought Doyle was already in talks about the POTA sequel.

He was, but since then the director has changed to Matt Reeves who has worked with Giacchino twice.

Giacchino would be a great choice, but I like the music was composed by Don Davis. I miss him. Anyone know the reason for this retreat? I listened for a few forums that have mental problems or something. Is that true?

I always assumed that Davis preferred orchestrating to writing music (kind of like how Ken Wannberg left scoring as he preferred editing more).

Amazing. I still love Speed Racer (score and movie) to death, and regardless of whether this movie's any good, I bet Giacchino's score'll be something special.

The casting here leaves a bit to be desired but at least they got Eddie Redmayne. I hope this turns out to be a fun film and a good score by Giacchino.

Michael Giacchino was in London a couple of weeks ago recording part of the score.

Looks not uninteresting to me.

Although Channing Tatum with elf ears and full makeup is... involuntarily funny, IMO.

Trailer makes the film look ridiculous. This is no doubt going to be a pass.

Ah, Mila Kunis. The woman with a permanent look of reading very, very small print on a cereal box.

OK... couldn't miss the end note Soundtrack Album on WaterTower Music.
Hopefully we'll get proper thing and not just another complete fuck up like Jack.

I just noticed that this film will be released on July 18th, 2014, exactly one week after Giacchino's other summer movie, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, comes out. It'll be a very musical week for me! Can't wait to hear the scores for both films.

He also has a third film, This is Where I Leave You, coming out in September. Hopefully that one gets a score release as well.

Yeah. I think it looks very Wachowski, which means it probably won't do very well. But Warner Bros. continues to throw money at them. Anyway, they made the right choice in composer. smile
