The latest release from Intrada is the first ever score CD release of one of Michael Giacchino's first feature scores, the 2005 superhero comedy adventure SKY HIGH, starring Michael Angarano, Kelly Preston and Kurt Russell.

Music Box is releasing an expanded version of Georges Delerue's typically beautiful score for the 1988 period romance A SUMMER STORY, starring James Wilby and Imogen Stubbs.

This month, along with their previously announced expansion of Mark Mancina's Twister, La La Land plans to release the score for the documentary AN ACT OF LOVE, composed by animation veterans Lolita Ritmanis, Michael McCuistion and Kristopher Carter, and a two-disc expanded/remastered version of Trevor Jones' CLIFFHANGER.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced this year's nomination for their film awards, including Original Music:

ARRIVAL - Jóhann Jóhannsson
JACKIE - Mica Levi
LA LA LAND - Justin Hurwitz
LION - Dustin O'Halloran, Hauschka
NOCTURNAL ANIMALS - Abel Korzeniowski

Justin Hurwitz and La La Land won the Golden Globes for original score and original song ("City of Stars," lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul).

DID THEY MENTION THE MUSIC?

THE ASSASSIN - Lim Giong

"Mood is key here, because though 'The Assassin' has just about everything a viewer would expect in a martial-arts fantasy (outrageous fake beards, wire-assisted leaps, black magic, etc.), it’s all muted and subsumed by a poetic atmosphere that’s radical even by Hou’s standards. At once ravishingly lush and starkly minimalist, shot almost entirely in boxy Academy ratio and scored to martial drums and birdsong, the movie seems to come from no time except the one it’s invented for itself."

Ignatiy Vishnevetsky, The Onion AV Club

"Extreme wide shots place the characters against stunning mountain terrains and inside wild forests, recalling the crystalline detail of classical Chinese paintings; interior scenes unfold in a golden glow, gauzy curtains drifting back and forth over the action, while crickets chirp and tribal drums sound periodically, the hushed tone making the eruptions of swordplay seem even more clangorous. The dazzling 35-millimeter photography is by Mark Lee Ping Bing."

J.R. Jones, Chicago Reader

"The score by Giong Lim ('A Touch of Sin') remains spare and period-sounding -- except for one action scene in which it suddenly takes a turn into 1980s action-movie synth territory -- and the spare, precise editing from Liao Ching-Sung and Huang Chih-Chia balances Hou’s long takes and the relatively fast-paced action moments with graceful skill."

Alonso Duralde, The Wrap

"Lim Giong’s score, making use of menacing drumbeats and delicate zither strumming, is deployed with particular subtlety."

Justin Chang, Variety

"Among the film’s superlative tech work, major credit goes to production and costume designer Hwarng Wern-ying and composer Lim Giong for a highly original use of music, drumbeats and other effects to convey an unsettling modern mood."

Deborah Young, Hollywood Reporter
