HOWZIT doin' at the b.o.?
Greg?
brm

From 11 April's Forbes magazine:

"Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One hit a double milestone. The Warner Bros./Time Warner Inc. release passed $100 million in domestic grosses yesterday while (with $397.593m not counting the Monday/Tuesday overseas numbers) also presumably sailing past the $400m mark. That in and of itself is not unusual. Sure, it’s been a tough year for big movies not titled Black Panther, but as a general rule, you greenlight $175m-budgeted flicks with the hopes that it will earn well over $100m domestic and maybe take a shot at $500m worldwide. While it’s not drowning in profits yet, the VR sci-fi actioner is on its way to being a relatively solid hit."

According to Alan Silvestri on Instagram de 2 CD-set includes the entire score.

As I have said many times before, domestic grosses are the only ones that really matter. To me at least.
thanks!

That view, my apologies, is completely outdated. For studios domestic grosses, of course, are important, but they are not the deciding factor for them anymore. Worldwide grosses are what determines how movies get made now.

In other words: if a movie is a domestic hit but tanks in the rest of the world, it will be considered a disappointment. If a movie does meager business domestically but is a hit in the rest of the world, it will be considered a hit and spawn sequels.

Exactly. Last year's Matt Damon film THE GREAT WALL didn't even open in the U.S. until it had played most of the rest of the world, and only pulled in 14% of its $335 million gross in America. But the film was a hit overall, grossing double its budget.

The more nefarious side of that is that films are sometimes scripted and edited to not offend repressive foreign governments, particularly China. If there is something in a script that might prevent a movie from being shown in China--like a depiction of Chinese government corruption in a Bond film, let's say--out it goes.

Reporter: Mr. Spielberg, how do you feel about the reception of American audiences to ADVENTURES OF TINTIN?
Steven Spielberg: Well, it was a total box office flop but It doesn't bother me.
Reporter: why not?
SS: Because it did great business in the People's Republic of China!

yeah, right.....

Bruce, get your head outta your Trumpian arse and breath in the bigger picture.
The North American box office stopped being the main player some years ago.

We have been informed from the manufacturing label that READY PLAYER ONE has been canceled or postponed at this time. We will relist this title if it is made available again in the future. You have not been charged for this title.

We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.

Once it sells the stock they have, its probably gone.

But why did they do a "partial" print run then suddenly pull the plug?

Not sure, it is strange. Considering they have pressed other recent titles that are still out there.

I'm thinking it's a cost saving measure, in these days when most people are getting their music digitally and not buying CDs. It's almost like an unofficial "limited" title as far as the CD version goes, it's too expensive to keep it in print when not only is the soundtrack market small, but the number of soundtrack fans who buy CDs is even smaller.

If it was a cost saving thing, then why is Justice League still in production? Or Wonder Woman? Fantastic Beasts? Why release any CDs?

That SAE email has to be an error. It's available for order on Amazon, and I see no alert that they have limited stock. Could be a problem from their end. It hasn't been postponed obviously.
