It becomes apparent listening to these samples, that the final film mixers determined the sound of this soundtrack release for lo these many years, with added reverb that crushed the dynamics of various instrument groups. Probably inherent in the Dolby mixing process of the time.

Glad to hear the veil affixed by the mixers lifted at last. Just like the recent WarGames release.

Damn. I thought TRL would be my last soundtrack for awhile. I guess I picked the wrong month to quit LLL releases.

Good one!

No Luthor’s Lual (?) no buy!

Or on a second thought I might keep the Blue Box and buy this also...

I see LLL fit the source music from I in the II and III set, otherwise this would need to be 4-CD set

I suppose most of the Liner Notes material is being reused from the FSM set. Those notes have got to be the most comprehensive notes on the subject. One of the best ever done.

Agreed. All these years later and that hardbound book still doesn't look like it even belongs with a CD set. It's too handsome and too exhaustive.

Right now listening to the cues. The sound upgrade appears staggering even on mp3. Check out the distinctive clear drum roll on the 'Prelude and Main Title' sounds so clear; just before ostinato figures begin (coming from the right) There is less shrill sound on the brass this time and the sound stage ambience seems to be better preserved and available. The detailing in various orchestral parts is so clear. Another brilliant job by wunderkind Mike 'magic' Matessino!

Congratulations to very every one on the La La Land Team! You guys have yet another winner of a release here. kudos!

I just checked one of the rather random cues and it sounded pretty incredible... I have already went over my budget this month so I wasn't really going to order but just couldn't resist then...

I guess autographed copies for something like this would be just incredible but since I had no clue it was going to be available for pre-order today, I would miss it...

For some reason I haven't received any newsletter for the past several years...

Very curious to hear ARCHER as well...

The samples sound amazing, definitely the clearest I've ever heard this score. The strings no longer have that thin sound I tend to associate with Williams' '70s recordings.

I'm not seeing either one of these listed at SAE. Am I missing something?

Does anyone know if Superman: The Movie will be offered for sale at SAE?

Very mixing feelings about Sups. From one hand, I'm glad, that after Blue Box was finally sold out, the score still be in-print. From the other hand....

Does it mean that in 2028 we will get 50th Anniversary edition, which will sounds even better, with another 1-2 tracks, which no-one heard for 50 years? wink

And in serious mode - I understand that this new edition is remastered, improved etc., etc. and etc.
But if I already own Blue Box, do I really need to upgrade it? Please, don't say - just listen samples & compare.
I don't have expensive hi-fi equipment, so if I couldn't hear difference on my current equipment, I'll wait with this one. Let's face it - $35 (+ another $35 for bonus tracks, which were released on Superman 2-3 set), plus huge international shipping costs just for some short new tracks and better sound (with no guarantee that I'll hear the difference!) - is too much for me.

It will be very helpful, if Mike can comment about improvements etc.

After shipping and the usual seizure by customs and their ransom demand, buying these two discs will work out about $100, but I still have to have it.

International shipping and customs are killers though.

People are complaining on the Stylotone / Marnie thread about how much that CD/LP/digital package costs. Yet for us Brits, we have to pay that kind of money every time after shipping and customs, and just for a CD.

See how dedicated we Brits are? :-)

Cheers

Well said Staphen and totally agreed!

This is a wonderful presentation of a great JW score, would not expect anything less from LLL. Thank you!

Superman - "Is that how a warped brain like yours gets it's kicks? By offering CDs to people who can't afford them?"

La-La Land - "No. By selling CDs to people who can't afford them."

The same here in France, shipping and possible customs can really kill the desire for getting these editions. But sometimes we go through this nonetheless (but definitely not as often as we used to before 2010). Yes, that's dedication.

Why wouldn't it be? Why would anyone even ask that question unless perhaps they were new to buying scores from the specialty labels...

I listened to the samples in my car... in my CAR... and they sound sooo much better.

Thank you in advance to Mike Matessino for giving the celli ostinoto buildup the proper oomph it was missing. Arguably (along with the Star Wars blast fanfare) the most important opening to any Main Title in history.

My favourite cue of all time - is
"The Fortress Of Solitude" -

I am so excited to hear "The Alternate Segment"; and of course - the entire score.

I knew that the third disc was going to be the remastered version of the original soundtrack! My favourite cue on the original CD - is "Superfeats" - I love the drum roll at the end (lifted from the ending of "The Kryptonquake").

I have bought two copies of my favourite soundtracks previously -

...for this release -
I will be buying THREE of them! This is the definitive soundtrack of all time!!!

Thank You La La Land Records - and to - Michael Matessino - Nothing can ever top this release!

I'm wrestling with this Superman decision. It would be the sixth time I'm buying the score, starting from the LP. And yes, each edition is better than the last. But it's a very individual thing and no one can decide it for you.
