I've been waiting for this release since I saw the film in 1968. Finally, a dream come true. Thanks Quartet. A FANTASTIC start to the day!

I hate double dipping. I really do. I sometimes try my own patience by waiting for a release that I think/hope will be coming and striking at the right time so I don't have double dip or worse. And then something comes along which is irresistible. As a Morricone western and Leone western fan I simply cannot be without this. Personally I loved what the GDM expansion did especially with The Trio. That particular track loses nothing for me in it's hybrid form and I guess that it won't be on this new release so I will have to hang on to the one I already have. I got the LP back in the late 70s, and together with four tracks on (Alan Warner's?) Western Themes Italian Style LP I have dipped several times. The only other I've done this with is Star Trek:tMP. That GDM release wasn't complete, but the only thing that specifically irked me was the lack of End Title, with that constant driving of the beat while Tuco is waiting to be saved. And for me an end title bookends nicely with the opening. And actually for this listener there aren't only so many times that I can hear each and every one of the coyote inspired cries. Again, what made the GDM release work so well is that by popping all the variations of the main theme where they should be, along with those cries, we had a perfect audio punctuation of this brilliant score. The original soundtrack release from back in the day's presentation actually SPOILS the score. By just having the Main Title at the start and the two other standout tracks at the end makes all the stuff in the middle boring by comparison. That punctuation I mentioned actually brings everything ALIVE. There are so many peaks that stir the blood, and allow the other tracks to space out any repetition. So considering this is one of my all-time favourite film scores there is no other road to go down but simply buy it. If only the same thing could be done with the second in the Dollars trilogy...

OMG, some of you people are so fucking predictable in your responses. Ya know, if you don't like the presentation, don't fucking buy it. J Goodness gracious my dear friend, simmer down. They are allowed their opinions on this message board, if you don't like it YOU can leave. Great release none-the-less, we'll be picking it up as well as the other three. Thanks Quartet for another great batch of film music! P

Yes, I don't think the 3CDs are meant to be listened to consecutively. :-) You mean they should be played simultaneously? Triphenia? Now there is an idea. :-)

SAE charging $10.40 for local (U.S.) shipping for this one title. As a Scottish tax exile living in Spain, it gives me great pleasure to see all you Yankee doodle dandies having to pay lots of money on shipping from Europe. I can get all four new Quartet releases for 35 euros, with free postage. But I couldn't afford to buy LaLaLand's Two Mules For Sister Sara because it would have cost me more than 200 dollars in old money. So now that the glove is on the other foot, I am gleefully stamping on my hands and wishing you all many months of financial fretfulness.

Just listened to the samples. There's some great stuff on there worth the price admission alone! The one with the guitar and tubular bells on The Trio. The version of the theme with the cannon fire. Cannot wait to have this one. Wow. If I'm going to go overboard on a soundtrack it's going to be this one so. I feel like a lamb to the slaughter.

The samples sound amazing. I will pick this up sometime in the future. I think Quartet again, have outdone themselves with a final year batch. Bravo! Mono needs an image guru. Despite the badmouting, clean mono sounds better than crappy stereo.
