Wow, that's even sillier. Will people actually buy the exact same music twice in the SAME set?
Not to mention it's an extra $30 more than the old set released three or whatever years ago.

And the collectable stickers, hmm?! Did you forget the all-new exclusive poster?!?

The only reason I'd ever spend any money on STAR WARS music again would be a release in 5.1 high resolution audio.

Or properly mixed versions but don't count on this ever happening!

I couldn't give a rat's ass about more STAR WARS releases. Fact is that I have more than enough of them already. In fact, I've been thinking of going the OPPOSITE route, i.e. RIDDING MYSELF of some of my STAR WARS items. For example, I find the Arista box CD's superior to the RCA 2CD's, and am considering selling the latter.

I never understood why people keep the same exact recordings across multiple CDs in the first place. True with Star Wars the box vs the 2CD sets are an issue...but normally...

I'm really not surprised at how many of the 2-CD sets (the ones w/ the nice hardcover booklet) are readily available at any run-of-the-mill used CD store, some as low as $6.99! Especially JEDI, which had awful sound, IMO. I'm glad I kept the Arista set...

Then go further and return to the 1-cd set of EMPIRE and JEDI!! smile

(I sold the Arista set and I just keep the last 2-cd sets. In case like this it really worths it)

If this set had been a remaster of the original LP configurations, I probably would take a modicum of interest. But really, how many times does this music need to be re-introduced to a new generation like this? It's so ingrained as part of pop culture. Besides the completist collectors that need to get every incarnation released, do that many people really buy these things for the first time?

I know the business reasoning for double and triple dipping but personally all it does for me is teach me to NOT buy stuff in the first place. I have to believe I'm not the only one who feels like this. While it would be very difficult to prove I really feel like leaving a bitter taste in consumer's mouths with rerelease after rerelease only weakens sales and doesn't strengthen them.
The point about reissues vs. going out of print is a valid one but the fact is most or all of the stuff that gets reissued is the stuff that sold well in the first place. Going out of print is of very little concern for something as huge a name as Star Wars.
In the end it seems to me to be a case of Record Companies playing it as safe as possible by making the smallest and safest of efforts by throwing consumers a bone. With this risk-averse business strategy it's no wonder CD sales have been dwindling year after year.

I did actually consider that (going back to the Gerhardt recordings, that is), but the STAR WARS scores are actually one of those rare cases where a slight expansion is called for - not as much as the RCA sets, but the Arista single-disc versions are more or less perfect.

Now here's a re-issue I would buy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IN62wqBdbxA

Why not? There's already a Star Wars jazz album, right?

I long for those days of yore when someone like Tito Puente would do an entire Broadway or Hollywood score on his timbales, wincing as if in pain, with his tongue sticking out, the works.
You kids wouldn't understand.

The package designs that use posters from the 70s/80s looks more appealing than the prior releases. The cut and pasted fake posters that Lucasfilm mandated looked dreadful. With that said, The set is overpriced and comes with useless extras.

Has anyone got anymore updated information on these releases specifically the Boxset. I thing they were released today.

Do the recordings differ in anyway to the previous 2 discs versions ?

Cheers, Guy

Nope, like the 2004 they were remastered with the Sony DSD format, but some say that has no effect.

Do you ever listen to the fourth disc with the "Outtakes"?

No. I don't think I've listened to that CD since the mid 90's!
