First of all thanks for getting Call of the Wild out
Second, if this works out, could you please give it a better cover art? at least one with composer's name on it?

Really? Ive seen far worse. Not bad for a digital art cover. Reminiscent of the Raiders of the Lost Ark poster.

If a CD is released I will buy it. I enjoyed the score.

Saw this at the cinema today - enjoyable family film, a sort of cross between Indiana Jones, The Mummy, and Pirates of the Caribbean (although probably not quite as good as any of those). Still, I had fun and would recommend.

Howard's score was a real highlight - exciting orchestral action and wonderful melodies throughout.

Really hope we see a CD release...

Five minutes into "Jungle Cruise Suite" and it's already a hard "nope". Just a wash of orchestral pablum.

I had sort of reacted the same way when listening to the “Jungle Cruise Suite”, but I encourage you to listen to the samples of the other tracks, there’s a lot of other great stuff to be heard. A few postings back I had hoped for a “Congo” type theme, but it seems it’s not that kind of film (kind of dumb of me to assume it was just cuz of the “jungle” setting big grin) Howard’s a skillful composer and a class act, I’m sure he gave the film exactly what was required.
Now…I’m actually looking forward to seeing the movie.

Can you recommend 3 tracks, with one in "suspense/adventure/comedy" mode, another "romantic", and lastly an all-out "action" track?

Agreed, that's a good overview of the film. Lots of fun but falls a bit short.

Ive listened to the score twice and it indeed sounds "average". Individual cues are competently written and there are some stand out segments but overall it lacks thematic continuity or drive. The film is cut very fast and the action scenes in the film are underwhelming so this may have been an impediment.

The movie is entertaining in a low-key way and it’s disheartening how much all of it looks the same. Like at this point CG is pre-packaged and you don’t really need people to make new stuff, just get the preexisting CG package templates to work.

Anyway, you’re hearing it here first but I think they should just make movies based on their rides and ripped off from Humphrey Bogart films. Like “Thunder Mountain Railroad” starring The Rock as a take on “Treasure of the Sierra Madre”. Like, The Rock is in a bar, all washed up, in a town called Thunder Mountain, and it’s after the Gold Rush has died down and the town is in dire straits and Emily Blunt shows up because her father used to work a gold mine that dried up and he went broke and she’s the daughter who wants to be a teacher and build a school but doesn’t have the money, who inherited this empty gold mine and The Rock runs some podunk little mine cart train from the early mining days and takes her on a ride up to the crummy old abandoned mine of her father’s. Then they discover hidden riches in the mine, some old treasure maps from her father, The Rock sees a way to pay off his gambling debts and drink tab at the bar and Blunt sees a way to build the school she always wanted because she’s a teacher, and that’s her arc. And then after a mine cart chase that rips off Temple of Doom the movie slides into a cool 50% on Rotten Tomatoes and Disney moves on to the next ride, “The Matterhorn”… starring The Rock in lederhosen… in a take on The Sound of Music…

Get a copyright on that post! That story is Disney‘s next summer blockbuster ;-)

A Steamer To Brazil
Market Chase
Encantado
Petal Negotiations

If you don't like those four then this score is probably not for you.

Sampling the score now too, and boy oh boy, do I have the work cut out for me. My impression from the film viewing holds up, but it's even more mickey-mousey/whimsical than I remembered. Extremely frenetic through and through! The Metallica stuff is far by the best part of the score (an oasis of melodic content!). Hopefully I can boil it down to 30 minutes of worthwhile listening, but at this point I'm not sure if I have the energy, or if it is at all possible.

I'm not attracted to the movie and this music has no real appeal for me though it probably works fine in the film. Probably ideal for a theme park ride.

I prefere the JNH of Intersection, Grand Canyon, Alive, Unbreakable, I am Legend etc.

Played Ant's recommendations:

…lacks thematic continuity…

Yup.

…mickey-mousey…

Yup.

Probably ideal for a theme park ride.

Yup.

And … 3 strikes and you're out!!!

NP: The Aviator (1985) It's been a while. And, blimey, I'd forgotten how Frontiere stepped up to the plate and slammed "Crash No. 2" over the stadium. This is what you call top notch orchestral writing.

Completely agree with your assessment of the movie. Just a fun lighthearted adventure movie.

The score though... It just seems too busy and doesn't do anything for me. The best stuff is the Metallica stuff but it feels completely out of place in the movie given the rest of the score. And the score isn't terrible by any means, it just feels... basic? Generic? I can't quite put my finger on the word... But it feels like it's chaotic and lacking any memorable or recognizable themes. My favorite musical moment in the movie is actually when they abruptly cut the music out at one point for comedic effect.

Still, not a terrible score by any means. Just my personal preference.

So he's wrong and you're right...?! That's a bit presumptuous. I'll decide myself whether I like it or not, thank you very much.
