Disc #4 was the first one I listened to. I needed to satiate myself with a 'fix' of Amfitheatrof.

To mgh, Ray, Yavar, Wedge and ALL of you other Western Soundtrack lovers, Merry Christmas. We have great taste. May Santa brings us More Western Soundtracks in 2020. Thanks, Joan. Happy Holidays to you too!. We do have excellent taste don't we? Westerns are the best. Last night I did a three movie Western marathon. BRANDED, THE HANGMAN, and COPPER CANYON on Amazon Prime. (HANGMAN was free and I purchased the other two). I had never seen them and wanted to see how the scores worked. All were good solid Westerns. BRANDED and COPPER CANYON had excellent color photography of beautiful locations I am intimately familiar with just a short drive away from my home here in Arizona. Salt River Canyon (very close) and the Dragoon Mtns. south of Tucson for BRANDED and Sedona for COPPER CANYON. The scores are much more meaningful for me now. Now I have to look for KID RODELO, WALK LIKE A DRAGON, and STREETS OF LAREDO somewhere. All the others I know well.

I am at the very early stages of planning a trip 'out West' one of the places I am interested in visiting is Sedona, so many westerns filmed there. I haven't been to Arizona since 1977 and now have a longing to return. We'll see! Anyway, I should have my Paramount box in a few days.

Grand Canyon to the North and John Ford country ( Monument Valley). If you're staying at Goulding's in Monument Valley , have your camera ready for morning sunrise.

Sedona is beautiful, although the town itself is a bit touristy and filled with all kinds of New Age nonsense...crystals and vortexes and all that pseudo-science mystical crap. My favorite places in northern AZ are Grand Canyon (don't go in summer) and Monument Valley. One of the best experiences ever was hiring a Navajo guide for an 8 hour Jeep tour to places tourists can't go alone. As Cody mentions, staying at Goulding's Lodge in Monument Valley is a must. It's where John Ford and his actors and crew stayed to film all the iconic Westerns. There are a couple of sets there (like Captain Nathan Brittles' office) and lots of memorabilia. It's about 4 hours Northeast of Sedona. Also of interest just a short drive north in Utah is Valley of the Gods. Doctor Who filmed an iconic episode there with Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, et. al. and at Glen Canyon Dam in nearby Page, AZ. I've been there multiple times...never gets old. A couple of hours south of Monument Valley is Canyon de Chelly (pronounced "d'shay") where parts of MacKENNA"S GOLD was filmed. Just gorgeous and less filled with tourists.

Ray, thank you so much for all this valuable information, it's very much appreciated indeed! On my 1977 trip I did camp out on the rim of The Grand Canyon (during a great thunder and lightning storm!), and we passed through Monument Valley. I cannot remember anything about visiting Goulding's Lodge, so that's on my list now! We also visited Glen Canyon Dam, Page, AZ., Canyonlands, and Arches National Park. I would love to visit Canyon de Chelly too! It's all a bit jumbled up in my head at the moment, I need to sit down and do some research to get my memories in order, lol! I may have to pick your brains a little more (maybe I'm an 'old turkey buzzard', lol!) as time goes on, hope this is ok?

Niall, John Ford country to the East . It's a big part of the reason I want to go back there Cody, before I get too decrepit, lol! Also, Diana has never been to those parts of America and wants to visit, as well as being a lover of John Ford's films too! Thank you my good friend! We can talk a lot more about this via Facebook and email!

I'll take the rap for the Remington/Weighorst mix-up. Remington WAS cited in at least one contemporaneous article as a key cinematographic influence on the film, but connecting that to the MT images was clearly a goof. Mea culpa, and thanks for the clarification! Apart from that, Ray, I'm thrilled that you are enjoying the set (and the notes) so much! We really did feel like we were unearthing buried gold with this project, and it's edifying to know that there are people out there who are feeling the same way. (And I REALLY wish we could have given you more of Webb's BRANDED! I enjoyed the film, but it would be worth watching regardless just to hear more of that marvelous score.) It was so long ago that I can't recall why precisely we weren't able to include the re-recordings from the various LPs. But the trade-off, of course, is that this allowed us to include several fantastic additional scores that might have otherwise gone unheard! Well, there is another error in the notes, where HIGH NOON is mentioned as being a Paramount film... not so, it was a Stanley Kramer Production released through United Artists, back in 1952. Really enjoying the music though, especially the "biggies" that are NEVADA SMITH and WILL PENNY.

A good candidate for the " good score/ bad film" thread.
