Soul Hits of the '70s: Didn't it Blow Your Mind, Vol. 13
01 The Hues Corporation- Rock The Boat
Soul meets Disco.
There are a number of Disco crossover hits in the collection. By 1974 Disco had begun to permeate the Soul/R&B charts, so it makes sense to include some of those. The redundantly-named Carl Carlton has his big hit "Everlasting Love" in one of the volumes.
There are also Blues, Jazz, and Gospel songs scattered throughout "Soul Hits of the '70s."
Not a fan of the DJ's methods or them in general, but I suppose one could understand their resentment at so many Rock music stations "going Disco" overnight. The powers that be really crammed Disco down the public's throats circa 1977-78. It must have been especially galling for established stars like James Brown and Aretha Franklin to "have to" record Disco-themed albums.
There's good disco and bad disco, just like in any other genre.
I've always been a fan myself. Love beat-based music in general. Probably the only person on FSM who adores EDM, especially the darker kinds like psytrance or goa.
I am laughing thru the tears watching that great. video. Belly laughing. It was much worse/better than I imagined!
I love when Piersall calls it a " sad sight" and they cut to the fans joyously celebrating!
Wasn't there also a riot at a $1 a beer nite" game....possibly in Cleveland?
Two questions?
If fans hated disco so much how come they had all those records? Was there an inspector at the.turnstiles making sure they brought disco ? What if they brought something that.could be reasonably classified as.disco I.e. Michael Jackson or Blondie but really wasn't? Did the umpires.decide?

I hate the Bee Gees/Saturday Night Fever late 70s disco-style. 80s disco is better, particularly an album like Pet Shop Boys' DISCO from 1986. I'm not sure if that is really "disco" though.

Moroder's disco is hit or miss for me.
I agree with much of what you guys have said. The snobs who sniff at disco music likely did not do so at rock 'n roll in its early days. Disco and rock 'n roll share a common thread - dance. How many classic early rnr songs were all about dancing? Same is true for disco. It started out being all about the dancing. Disco filled a niche at a time when folks were looking for music to which they could dance. Yeah, it became overblown and bloated and jumped the shark and all that, but was that the fault of those whom loved to dance to it? What form of popular music hasn't jumped the shark at some point? As to SNF, I liked most of it and I think I still have the LP somewhere. My favorite track is "If I Can't Have You" - Yvonne Elliman's cover of the Bee Gee's song. She was pleasing to the ears and to the eyes.
Rammstein's latest and presumably last album -- out today, and it's GREAT!
(eh..I was unlucky and got a 'white' background in my post, rather than blue, so it looks a bit weird now -- but intriguing, minimalistic cover regardless).
