Despite watching many playthroughs and reviews, I still get confused between all the games with Mansion, Madness and Cthulu in the title. Some look really good, but i just know the people i'll eventually play games with would have no interested in the dark themes.

Hi Xebec, I am familiar with most of the Cthulhu mythos games, so if you have any questions I will do my best to answer them. If you are interested in them, I still say give it a shot, as most Cthulhu mythos games are cooperative, which means you can play them solo if need be.

Thanks Michael, I may go back and make sure i know which game is what and looks appealing to me, then run them by you for your opinion. Some get rated really highly.

Have any of you played any roll and write games? I never have but i see them as a fairly big sub-genre of game. There's one called Fleet the Dice Game that looks interesting.

I had GLOOMHAVEN JAWS OF THE LION delivered today. Along with THE QUEST FOR EL DORADO THE GOLDEN TEMPLES which completes my owning everything on that boardgame and its expansions. It's my favourite of what i own and play.

At the weekend i had quite of few games of El Dorado and also Flamme Rouge, which I love.

Will have to look through Gloomhaven properly, as it's definitely more complicated than what i usually play. So might not get around to it for a bit. But it's also solo player too, so I may play that beore playing it with others to get a handle on it. Who knows. if i like it i may get Gloomhaven or Frosthaven, but i think that's jumping the gun.

I really want CAMPAIGN TRAIL but it's currently being funded and not sure when it will be released retail. Other than that, I'm pretty good for now. Though i do want a space-themed game that i know i'll really want to play. There's plenty of tempting ones, but just not sure others would play them. I'll have to leave those bigger board games for you lads to enjoy and take photos of.

Anyway, it's all good fun.

Played my The Quest For El Dorado The Golden Temples (Standalone/Expansion). It was really good fun. And a few races of Flamme Rouge.

I'm at an impasse now. There's no games i REALLY want at the moment. Just some stuff that is unavailable, like the Flamme Rouge expansion. Otherwise i'm just waiting for stuff to be released later in the year. I'll have to solo play my Gloomhaven JotL.

My clan plays a Trivia Pursuit knock off game. I don't remember the name of it though.

Looking at getting BITES. It's sort of similar to Deep Sea Adventure on a surface level, but has a lot more going on with it. A quick play, easy to learn game. Looks fun.

I really wanted Twilight struggle but know i'll never get to play it as it takes 2-3 hours and is about fighting the Cold War.

But I heard 13 DAYS, which is about the Cuban Missile Crisis, plays similarly, but in about 45 minutes. So i'm ordering that and maybe KINGDOMINO.

Also there's a game called THE NETWORKS, about running your own small cable TV channel that looks fun.

There's a lot of Kickstarter ones or upcoming releases i'd be interested in checking out if they come to retail:

CAMPAIGN TRAIL (This is the one i was saving muh pennies for)
ATLANTIS RISING
FLAMME ROUGE GRAND TOUR (not sure what it is, but i love Flamme Rouge and I'd buy it or sure)
OROS
DEATH ROADS: ALL STARS
MONSTROSITY
ICE
A NOBLE WAR
EOS: ISLAND OF ANGELS
PASSENGERS
LAST LIGHT
ISS VANGUARD
USS FREEDOM
PRISON ARCHITECT
WILD SPACE
TAXI DERBY
FOSSILIS

I did manage to snag the Peloton expansion for Flamme Rouge. Looking to play it this weekend.

Last weekend i played The Networks, where you have to program three time slots of your small TV station. It took 3 attempts to get the rules right, but it was a lot of fun, and actually pretty simple. Just a few things to remember.

Bites was a very easy game to learn and surprisingly tactical and a lot of fun.

I just ordered Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers. I really enjoy Carcassonne and this looks lile a very good variant to enjoy.

Lewis & Clark and Scorefan, have you played anything recently?

Nice. You are probably sick of seeing me write about Zombicide, but the 2nd Edition that we Kickstarted over a year ago finally arrived, so we invited a few fully vaccinated gaming friends over, and we played a scenario.

I really like the updates they did to 2nd edition, and everyone had a great time. We went all-in in the backing, and there is a ton of content for which we have only scratched the surface.

Now that most of the people I game with are fully vaccinated, hopefully we can get some more in-person gaming going with a wider variety of games.

Actually, you've made me check out a lot of videos of Zombiecide, and i nearly went and bought one. But the person i play with isn't really into horror themed games and i'm think it might be a bit overwhelming for the very few casual gamers i know. I think i checked out every Cthulu based game too but made no decision on any of them.

Glad you'll be playing more games face-to-face.

I've never kickstarted any games. Have you done that often?

We have backed around a dozen or so games on Kickstarter. So far I haven't had any issues, but then we tend to back games from companies that have successful track records delivering on what they promised. Honestly, I am not a big fan of them in concept, as I would rather support my local game shop, but these days there are some games that are only available through Kickstarter, or have stretch goals with content that is otherwise unavailable, so we end backing some games through Kickstarter. Are you thinking about backing a game through Kickstarter?

I've seen a few in the past where i thought they looked good and i considered it. Mostly what stopped me was that they were a bit on the expensive side and that was before I'd factored in the shipping costs. Also, some vague release dates have made me shy off. I always have a bit of a look at what's coming out though because you never know. I usually don't get games that are over $75 Canadian due to i can't really afford them. I know a lot of the kickstarter ones are very expansive by comparison.

There's an ISS Vanguard and USS Freedom that do look very interesting but seem to be changing as we speak during their development.

Michael or Lewis, have either of you played this game (or know anyone who has?):

I'm rather tempted by it.

Nope, never heard or seen of it... But I got the anniversary edition of Knizia's The Lord Of The Rings game - which is one of the first really good co-op games. I like the newly designed components better than the original one - alas the boards are smaller in the new edition.

I have never even heard of this game. Based on the reviews on board game geek, it sounds like a lot of fun and I would love to give it a try. Let us know what you think if you end up getting the game.
