I have the 62-track New Avengers CD and this vintage Varese CD:

Would love to have some of Johnson's original recordings from the Peel years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_E1PXafWY4&t=29s This channel has uploaded some of the episode music ripped from the show--not the greatest quality but it's still a nice trip down memory lane. There was some fantastic music on that show

NO. There are no decent soundtrack albums released of this music. There are various releases, including those Starlog/Unicorn Canchana things in the 1980s, and then those strange three disc efforts a few years ago, where loads of previously released tracks on those above albums (and others) were released alongside 'proper' tv soundtrack selections. The one disc in each case (The Avengers, The New Avengers, and The Professionals) were extremely tantalising, and showed us that the tracks we all want seem to be still in existence. What we need is someone to get to Laurie, or his estate and give us a series of really good well thought out releases. I personally want the sixties Rigg and Thorson episodes composed by Laurie Johnson. Not that bothered about the rest (although I would include Johnny Dankworth's single release of his Honor Blackman era series theme). I would get a decent New Avengers collection, but that Howard Blake release a few years ago reminded me that there's no replacement for Laurie Johnson. Not only did he give us a lot of atmospheric almost dissonant (but pretty entertaining) stuff, but also a lot of melodic music too. Plenty of harpsichord and jazz infused cues that can very pleasantly waft in the background like nothing else. I absolutely love his stuff for the Cybernauts (in all three episodes featuring them) and Never Never Say Die (I think the one with Christopher Lee). But a lot is really dynamic or loungey (and cute in places) in equal measures.

There's plenty of great music.

I guess it's just a matter of who owns what, but a definitive Avengers release would be a perfect fit for Network.

I really hope one day, soon some label will be willing to dig deeply into Laurie Johnson and Howard Blake's archives and release a comprehensive edition of the whole show. Like they did for "The Prisoner". "the New Avengers" is a grail to me. I never understood why The Prisoner (which has alot of library music) was somehow deemed more worthy of soundtrack releases than The Avengers. But yeah, would love a comprehensive release ala Network's The Prisoner. Well, The Prisoner's run was a lot shorter... And, again, it's probably a rights issue. Network has put out just about the full ITC catalog. The Avengers was ABC.
