"Rush" is greater than half of those scores, IMO.

An Ok list except for the inclusion of "Dunkirk" and "Kung Fu Panda" - I'd have replaced those with Hannibal, MI-2, Thin Red Line, The Last Samurai, Holmes, Rush - in fact any of his other scores is better than Dunkirk.

Can't say I agree with this. One score from before 2000!

But sure, many fine scores on the list.

Good list! But I would swap Dunkirk and Lion King with WW84 and Pearl Harbor (my two favorites).

Come on! These people hasn't listened to anything from the eighties and early nineties? That time features Hans Zimmer's best work!

Collider is a content mill so not a good source of info, and the author just received his undergraduate degree last year. Not exactly the most qualified individual to be writing about someone whose only Academy Award win was at least a half-decade before the writer was even born.

No mention of RAIN MAN, CRIMSON TIDE, BROKEN ARROW, THE ROCK, THE LAST SAMURAI, the PIRATES films, the SHERLOCK films... you know, all the stuff that built up the popularity that Zimmer now coasts on...

For the past 10 years, I've occasionally "felt" interested in Hans Zimmer's Batman scores, and for some reason didn't dare buy a CD.
Your article prompted me to try again to get acquainted with the score, which I postponed listening to for many years.
Thanks, Dragon53!

The Thin Red Line ( my favorite )
Gladiator
The Lion King
The Prince of Egypt
Inception
The Dark Knight
Interstellar
Sherlock Holmes
Crimson Tide

Man of Steel, I found horrible, just like the movie. It lacks everything that the one from Donner had.Charm...epic...heart.. soul...almost biblical ....and this music...by that dude..whats his name?

There's a PIRATES film on his list.

Yeah, you're right. I guess an ad was covering it (or it looked like an ad) when I scrolled through.

I think the first one is probably the least over-the-top of the series, but at least they acknowledged its existence.

I like how the list can't mention INCEPTION without having to apologize for "braaaaam". Such a conundrum!

I listened to the first PIRATES score on Spotify a couple weeks ago and was shocked by how small and almost cheap it sounded in retrospect. The second and third scores sound much better, and the third score is probably the overall musical highlight of the series (at least for me, though the Kraken theme in part 2 slaps).

And rumors aside as to who really wrote it, since Badelt is credited for the first PIRATES, you couldn't really put it on a list of Zimmer's best.

9. Dunkirk:
why is this on there? what the hell would've been number 10? Batman vs. Superman?

8. Kung Fu Panda:
Didn't heard the score, didn't seen the film. The linked track "Oogway Ascends" is really beautiful.

7. Gladiator:
One of my Zimmer favorites. deserves to be in the top 5

6. Pirates 3:
One of my Zimmer favorites. deserves to be in the top 5

5. Man of Steel:
I like it more than others here do. Not Zimmers best work but definitely not bad.

4. The Dark Knight:
Well, I like Begins and Rises more then this one but sure it has some awesome tracks "like a dog chasing cars" for example.

3. Inception:
like Man of Steel, I like Inception mainly for the e-guitar parts. "Time" is a bit repetitive but I like the chord progression.

2. Interstellar:
One of my Zimmer favorites. deserves to be in the top 5

1. The Lion King:
I don't really like musicals. Nothing for me.

now my top 9 in no order:

-Interstellar
-Gladiator
-Sherlock Holmes 1
-Rango
-Drop Zone
-Pirates 3
-Batman Begins
-WW84

I know I only listed 8 scores. If collider can't deliver a top 10, why should I do a top 9?

Man, this is a toughie for me!

01 Interstellar
02 Inception
03 The Dark Knight Rises
04 The Thin Red Line
05 The Last Samurai
06 Crimson Tide
07 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
08 The Prince of Egypt
09 Gladiator

The Lion King, The Rock, Man of Steel and Batman Begins just missed the list

Everyone is entitled to their own lists, including collider (even though, as previously noted, it's very heavy on the new things and very lacking on older).

I did a top 10 Zimmer list a few years back, in article form (albeit in Norwegian), and although I would make some slight changes today, I think it's perhaps more representative than collider's -- if that's a goal.

Have not compiled such a list, but DUNKIRK would rank rather high for me. (And way higher than GLADIATOR or THE LION KING.)

I'm surprised that I never really see The Da Vinci Code on any of these lists. For those of us that enjoy a lot of Zimmer's work, what are your thoughts on this score?
