Saw it on Friday night in my local V-Max cinema in Sydney. I read about 50 pages of the book as a teenager and have seen the Lynch film once (and never particularly want to see it again) and so I don't really know a lot about Dune. This one was a very powerful film, quite meditative at times. The music was very loud but fit with the film well. It seemed quite experimental at times, like Zimmer was really stretching himself. A few things bothered me a little... maybe 40% of the dialogue I didn't understand (just not intelligible in the mix)... the final fight scene just seemed to go on for too long... and that damn sword was shown too many times (lol).... Also felt like the film could have benefited from maybe 5 - 10 minutes shorter playing time...
Every single cd release of the original score is a cd-r? I came along a copy in my retail (imported) and don't if I should get it as cd-r is not my cup of tea.
Thanks! I missed that info. This looks like the release to get. Does anyone know if this will be available in another retails and webpages like MusicBox Records or even Amazon?
How complete is this 3-disc edition? Is anything still missing?
This release certainly does not contain the complete score.
As stated above, it contains Zimmer's Sketchbook album (suites of the various themes Zimmer wrote at the start of the production) and the original soundtrack album that contains a bit more than an hour of original score.
I'd say more than half of the original score is still unreleased.
Then we probably won't get a complete score until the third and final film in the series is released. If we ever get a complete release. In the meantime, I'm happy to have this 3-disc available.
