The Gold Bug is a classic, for me from the Instrumental Works compilation.
T'is indeed. Always wondered if Monkman's THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY was inspired by it; the film and TURN came out around basically the same time. What's unquestionable, however, is its temp track use in Trevor Jones' THE LAST PLACE ON EARTH.
Always known about Ten Years After, of course (as previously mentioned in the thread), but never sat down to properly explore their discography. I've always wanted to, because I suspect it's right up my alley.
Much of their material is prog and psych influenced, and interesting, but some of it sounds like very stock rock blues, like you'd hear these days from the house band on Letterman and things like that, which is a style so rote at this stage it feels kinda flavourless to me. However, the playing from Ten Years After is exceptional, and all it takes is for Alvin Lee to launch into a solo, even on those stock sounding tracks, and you get what sets them apart.
