When I heard the news that the Smiths had broken up, my teenage years died. No joke.
I have strong nostalgia for those mid-80s years but I was too young to really appreciate their music at the time. I've since gone back and rediscovered their work multiple times. Probably the band I sing along to most, or at least, I get the most carried away with it in their case.
The only song by The Who I truly love. The line about "the north side of my town faced east and the east was facing south" could serve as the inspiration for the Clash's "Lost in the Supermarket."
In this video it's difficult to watch anything but Keith Moon; the man was a force of nature!
Lots of similarities between The Who and Led Zeppelin:
Each band had a blonde, curly-haired, bad-ass lead vocalist; a shredding virtuouso lead guitarist; a stalwart, low-key bassist, and a crazy, absolute madcap drummer. The Who should have called it quits after Keith's death just like Zep did after Bonham died.
