Michael or Lewis, have either of you played this game (or know anyone who has?):

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/188547/maximum-apocalypse

I'm rather tempted by it.

I have never even heard of this game. Based on the reviews on board game geek, it sounds like a lot of fun and I would love to give it a try. Let us know what you think if you end up getting the game.

Will do. I'm leaning towards getting it, as i don't currently own this kind of game and i can solo it. It also seems to have a lot of replay value in its variety.

I was utterly destroyed at Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers all this weekend. I still loved playing it though.

I got a classic boardgame this week that will most likely never see my table except to look at the components and rules... DUNE by Gale Force 9.
Problem: getting 5-6 people being willing to dig into this game that will take about 3-4 hours to play and that will need to hit the table often to really get the game to shine (and no, no solo version and no fun with less than 5 people)
But I love DUNE and I couldn't pass on it *shrug*

I've seen a few playthroughs of Dune, it looks decent. Did you buy the very well reviewed newer game DUNE IMPERIUM? I'd have bought it but i know nobody I know will play it, even when the pandemic is over.

I'm looking at getting solo games these days but they are all expensive. Stuff like SILENT VICTORY, a sub game by GMT Games.

Nope, I really don't like the look of Dune Imperium. The only reason for me to consider it is the solo mode. But Gale Force 9 will release a Movie-Tie-In game that is based on the Dune I got. Streamlined and suitable for 4 people. Already placed my pre-order for it.

That's looks great. The playtime is very manageable and it being great at 2 players is ideal for me, too.

I actually just scored a couple of nice deals at the downtown comic shop.

Snow Tails, a racing game where you control huskies, but is difficult to find (i believe) was knocked down to $40. I've been after it for ages so it was great to find.

Serpents of the Seas: Flying Colors Volume 2 is a naval wargame set during the Revolutionary War of 1812 and that was knocked down to $35 because it was unloved. It plays solo, which will basically how I'll play it all the time, I imagine.

I also picked up Stockpile for a friend's birthday, who likes that kind of mathy game, and I'm sure I'll be playing it sometime in August.

First two player/four faction game with my wife - it was not nearly as bad as expected, even when there's no diplomacy involved with only two players.

That's a cracking looking board and box for that table. Glad the game didn't let you down.

I played Snow Tails last weekend. Husky racing that was pretty good fun.

The "board" is the vinyl playmat (sold separately). 35% bigger than the board that comes with the box. That's very useful because some regions are a bit small and get crammed pretty fast.

Ah, i should have guessed what with the box being in the background. Looks really impressive. A good upgrade.

Size-wise, I brought a real MONSTER onto the table: ECLIPSE - SECOND DAWN FOR THE GALAXY!
I had to expand the table in order to comfortably fit everything on it - for just two players!!!
Now imagine how this would look with six players big grin big grin big grin
This is the starting set-up for a two player game:

The huge playmat is an extra and not needed to play the game. But it looks gorgeous and then some, yes! smile

Wow that fits on with mm to spare. That looks like a great game - i had seen in the past they had playmats for that one. I had wanted to get that one myself but my only gaming buddy doesn't likes games with conflict, so it's pointless me getting it, sadly. But i really liked the look of it and have seen a few playthroughs. Good on you for getting a game of it down.

MY CITY - https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/295486/my-city

I like tile-laying games and this seems like a pleasant game. (as i can't play the ace 4X game L&C enjoys, bah!)

It has a legacy aspect to it but then a side of the board you can play any time. Should be delivered next Tuesday and i'll play it the following weekend.

Recently, I've been playing and enjoying lots of Carcassonne and Pandemic Iberia.

Upcoming games i'm interested in are:

Savannah Park
Kingdomino Origins
Neoville
Campaign Trail (if it's ever released to stores)
Carcassonne Amazonas (if i could find a copy)
I'm still umming and ahing over Maximum Apocalypse, as after a few playthrough watches I wasn't entirely sure i would solo it or if my friend would be interested playing it.

To show that I play more than Zombicide, I picked up a couple of games at my FLGS. The first is Descent: Legends in the Dark. I had been on the fence about getting this as it is pretty expensive and I wasn't that fond of the art. This isn't the first Descent game, and I am a big fan of the other Descent games, so I am hoping this will be a lot of fun. It is designed to be played with an app, so it will be interesting to see how that works.

Looking forward to giving this a try.

I also found this expansion/stand-alone game on sale. The Villainous series is a lot of fun and a good gateway game, as it is easy to learn and most people will be familiar with the theme. The concept is that each player plays a Disney villain who has unique objectives. The goal of the game is to be the first to complete your objectives while at the same time frustrating others from achieving their objectives.

Bought this Carcassonne Safari, which will be my third Carcassonne game. Really like the ones i've played so far, so i hope this is good.

Bought this solo game:

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/189664/hunted-twilight-u-boats-1943-45

You command a U-Boat from 1943-45 and have to survive to surrender, taking as many tonnes down into the deep as you go. My grandad was in the Royal Navy in WW2, so i'm wondering if the two ships he was on during this time will also be one of the ships you face. HMS Chanticleer was damaged beyond repair in 1943 by a torpedo from U-515. And on D-Day, HMS Frobisher was damaged by long-range G7e Dackel torpedoes fired from E-boats.

I recently read an excellent book on British submarines in WW2: SEA WOLVES by Tim Clayton - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11016226-sea-wolves

That got me interested in sub stuff and i missed getting Silent Victory, where you play as the American subs, so bought this game which gets good reviews.

Played Carcassonne Safari at the weekend and got destroyed three times.

Next, I'm looking at getting a two-player game called Land Vs Sea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgocZN5DRns

Given that it is October, I have been focusing on horror games. Recently, we got a few matches of Cthulhu: Death May Die. It is a really fun game, and one of the best balanced cooperative games I have played. Determining whether the players win or lose often comes down to the last few rounds. The game can also be brutally hard, and if players lose focus on the particular scenario's objectives, it can be quickly lost.

As the name suggests, this game draws from the Cthulhu mythos, but it takes quite a few liberties with the lore. It is a lot more action oriented, making it more of an Indiana Jones meets Cthulhu mythos game. In fact, one of the characters you can play bears a striking resemblance to a certain archeologist. (With enough differences so that they don't get sued.)
