I just saw the 1986 movie for the first time. Quite unfunny and tedious, to be honest. I mostly watched it to get a listen to Thomas Newman's full score. Only two tracks are on the album, Breaking The Code and Love Music, very nice tracks. These were actually the first tracks ever released commercially of Newman's music, in Autumn 86. Quite a bit of score in the film, I'm sure there could be a 35-40 minute score album release from this, if any label would want to. Opinions on this score? I'd love to see someone at a label who appreciates Thomas Newman's music release some of his stuff from this era which is all pretty much all un-released.

Indeed! I think there is a label called Varese something...

Jesus, that cue is really good. I just assumed it would be some dated synthy bullshit (not that there's anything wrong with that...), but yeah, just a really nice early Newman track.

I'd love a release of this one. I get the feeling that Newman doesn't work too hard to get his old scores released, as only one of his vintage scores has been released by our specialty labels (not counting his "Amazing Stories" score). Whispers In The Dark from 1992? That's not an early TN score for me.

Whispers In The Dark from 1992? That's not an early TN score for me. I just meant it's the only CD of his that wasn't released concurrently with the movie. Desperately Seeking Susan from 1985 was released in 1987 coupled with Chaz Jankel's Making Mr. Right. Threesome from 1994 was released in 1996 with American Buffalo.

Desperately Seeking Susan from 1985 was released in 1987 coupled with Chaz Jankel's Making Mr. Right. Threesome from 1994 was released in 1996 with American Buffalo. Let me try one last time: Since the advent of the limited edition vintage soundtrack releases starting roughly fifteen years ago, the soundtrack specialty labels have released many older scores from a variety of living composers, scores that received no CD releases when the films were released in the '80s and '90s. As an example, Thomas Newman's brother David has seen at least a dozen of his scores released in this way. But David Newman's brother Thomas has only had one film score (and one television score, as part of a series compilation) released in this way. This leads me to believe that quite possibly (but not certainly) Thomas Newman (son of Alfred, nephew of Lionel, cousin of Randy) is not an advocate for his own releases. You got a problem with that? Geez...calm down man. You wrote that Whispers In The Dark was "the only Newman score that wasn't released concurrently with the movie" Which is wrong, re Desperately Seeking Susan and Threesome, which both came out 2 years after the movies. It's as simple as that.
