Limited Edition Of 1000 Copies
2-CD Set

$ 19.98

This is one of Varese’ most cherished recordings. Georges Delerue: The Complete London Sessions is such a priceless collection of his music that we couldn’t stand having its last reissue be out of print any longer. The suites, recorded in London in the spring of 1989, were first issued as three individual volumes, each with a Bob Peak painting on the cover. In 2001 we compiled the original three volumes into a 2-CD set called Great Composers: Georges Delerue, featuring a Matthew Peak photo of Paris on the cover.

For this new edition we return to Bob Peak’s “Lady In White” painting from Volume One and present all of the newly recorded London suites that Georges Delerue recorded for us (not including the various bonus tracks of previous editions, which were not recorded at the London sessions). It is a priceless collection of Delerue’s sumptuous music. We have remastered it and are absolutely thrilled to have this collection join our very special new batch of CD Club titles.

From Rich and Famous, Platoon and Beaches to Steel Magnolias, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Memories of Me and Hommage à François Truffaut, this is a collection not to be missed.

1. Rich and Famous Suite (4:56)
2. Platoon Finale and End Title (6:54)

Gorgeous. I will probably pick this up with the amazing Williams and Goldsmith expansions.

That artwork and overall design is absolutely gorgeous (as is this recording, of course).

I don't own the original London Sessions albums, but I do have the 2-CD Great Composers: Delerue set that Varese released circa 2000. If I'm not mistaken, that album included most of the London Sessions material plus some suites from Rich in Love, Black Robe and Agnes of God. Is there anything on this new album that wasn't already on that previous 2-CD set?

At any rate, that Great Composers album seems to be OOP, but it's one of the single best compilation albums for any composer out there and is a phenomenal introduction to anyone remotely curious about Delerue's oeuvre. So this release comes highly recommended!

So some of the tracks on the original 3 discs weren’t part of the London sessions. Were they recorded elsewhere or were they just suites from the original soundtracks added to pad the release out?

Love the original releases, my first exposure to the beauty of Delerue. Might well pick this up if the sound is improved.
Highly recommended to anyone who doesn’t own the previous release. Absolutely heartbreakingly gorgeous music.

I was about to state this; having had the 2CD release since 2002 I sorted the tracks into their original single album releases when I ripped the CDs to my NAS for streaming. I've found it's made a truly wonderful release even better ... simply magnificent, from which I've subsequently decided to buy several of the full scores.

So why Crimes of the Heart is included is a query. Also, if the timings are correct, there's nearly a minute missing from Suite from Something Wicked This Way Comes [unused].

I shall live with my old copy ... yes, I'd like the improved sound but there are so many other CDs reaching for my credit card.

Also, the Something Wicked Suite was conducted by the producer, Frank Fitzpatrick, not Delerue.

I've owned this collection more or less since I started seriously collecting in high school, and anyone who doesn't own it, or better yet, might be unfamiliar with Delerue's output...

BUY. THIS. ALBUM.

Not only is it a magnificent overview of this man's career (even with the omissions of masterpieces like BLACK STALLION RETURNS and JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO, the later of which was of course not written during at the time of these recordings), but it also has some of the most gorgeous, flawless SOUND I've ever heard.

THIS is how strings ought to be recorded, always!

Not really complete since it's missing the HER ALIBI song "Between you and me," and the RICH AND FAMOUS - reprise.

Also, as already mentioned, CRIMES OF THE HEART suite is taken from the soundtrack.

Otherwise, nice to see this reissued. Might pick it up for the "remastered" aspect.

so, it has less music than the 2-cd set and less music than the 3-cd london sessions cds

and these are the london sessions only... but with non-london sessions cues

and this is the "complete one" smile

I dont get it

I'll happily keep my three CD compilation. To much good stuff missing from this release. The separate CD's are still very affordable too.

This is one of the composers I have not been able to delve into regrettably. So I think I will make my acquaintance with Mr Delerue's work through this album. Thank you Varese!

Didn't Delerue once state that he actually recorded much more stuff than what was released on the 3 initial CD's, enough to fill in 4 or 5 albums? Or am I wrong?

He could have filled four or five albums. But everything that has been recorded is on the cds.
