Is anyone here a member of the James Bond Int'l Fan Club? I wrote to them at P.O. Box 21 York Y041 1WX in the UK in April and never received a response. Is this club still active? Is it worth being a member? If so, does anyone here know how to get a response from them?

Is the Star Wars Fan Club at P.O. Box 111000, Aurora CO 80042 USA still active? Is anyone here a member? Is it worth being a member? I wrote to them in January and never received a response.

Does anyone here subscribe to the Star Wars Insider magazine? Is it worth it? Do they have any items in their catalog (ie. postcards) that can't be found anywhere else? I wrote to them at P.O. Box 16927 North Hollywood, CA 91615-6927 in April but never received a response. I called up the magazine in July at 1-800-261-6502 to get the catalog that's supposedly in the center of the magazine sent to me but no one returned my phone call. Does anyone here have any experience with them?

I was a regular member of the Doctor Who Appreciation Society from 1980 to 1985, Six of One : The Prisoner Appreciation Society from 1983 until somewhere in the late eighties, and Fanderson for those pesky soundtracks for a couple of years spread from around three years ago.

BUT! I am still a proud member of the Sons of the Desert, the international Laurel and Hardy appreciation society since 1988, with a break from '93-early 2000s.

Good enough for ya?

Just Fanderson without Club-membership your stuffed, I don't mind paying £29.50 when I buy some-think they reward me with a gift, comic, badges, replica lp-cd Etc, fine-staff at Fanderson.

I've been with the Sons of the Desert since 1972. I was Grand Sheik of the NY Founding Tent - Oasis # 1 - for several years and am now Grand Sheik of the Them Thar Hills Tent of Ellenville - Oasis # 281.

Wow. Just wow. My friends, I'm afraid this puts us all in our place.

Ray, you will of course have known the Exhausted Ruler himself, John McCabe who in turn knew Stan and Ollie. If only I had joined back in 1975 at the tender age of 14 I might have at least corresponded with him. Seeing the address (which I seem to recall started with "Pratfall"!) on the back cover of the United Artists LP 'Laurel and Hardy - The Golden Age of Hollywood Comedy (from which sprang the single release of Trail of the Lonesome Pine reaching no. 2 in the pop charts) , I just assumed I'd never get a reply. This was from years of mother telling me NOT to send of for all those silly things on the back pages of American comics with that reason given...

It would have been great to talk to someone who knew the boys, though in that respect I did get to meet and chat a little with Stan's second cousin Nancy Wardell who visited out tent, Brats of Sheffield in the late eighties. She lived here in Yorkshire only 20 miles away/30 mins drive in the town of Dewsbury. Nice little piece here in their local paper:

Yes, I knew Jack McCabe very well, as well as his (2nd) wife Rosina Lawrence. I also knew both Lucille Hardy and Ida Laurel. We also had a lot of special guests at the NY banquets, including L&H co-stars Felix Knight, Henry Brandon, Vivian Blaine, etc.

Oh, stop now Ray. It's just too much! Plenty here to relate to my fellow Sons on the next second Monday of the month. Couldn't make last Monday because I'd booked myself a different gig in Manchester. But I shall be joining everyone at an extra event on Halloween. A special double meeting with the gang over at Hyde near Manchester in the Sailors Beware Tent.

Seriously though, that's great info. Of course I've read about those earlier events. Just so jealous! But!.. I hope there were cocktails..

Forget email, I want to see Paul and Ray--that even sounds like a comedy team--hoist a piano up to an upper floor apartment!

That works for me. Even Faiola and Hickling would look good on a poster!

Back in the late 80's I was a proud member of the JOHN CARPENTER INFO CLUB (the only) based in Huddesfield,
UK...similar to Haddonfield. I had a brilliant, all consuming time and contributed to their magazine with articles etc and
purchased a lot of rare items!

Currently I am a SON OF THE DESERT a member of The LAUREL and HARDY APPPRECIATION SOCIETY from 1992 joined HELPMATES UK & THE LIVE GHOST tent! Met some celebrities back in 1995 with my first International convention but my fellow sons met some true greats like Hal Roach, Anita Garvin in previous years - sadly I was four years too late to live all this, but
am a proud owner of a rare piece given to me by LOIS LAUREL HAWES (Stan's daughter) which I shall treasure & I have been privileged to know four people who collaborated on the STAN & OLLIE movie!

*I have now been pursued by a government agency.....they say it's a club but I await n see!*

Excellent. The Sons are taking over the forum! Am I right in saying the Helpmates had a special screening of the Stan and Ollie film (we might've mentioned this around that time now I think about it)? Too bad I couldn't make it. A couple of Brats did including our Grand Sheik, Kevin Hepplestone.
