Newman vs. Newman.

And this time...it's personal.

Hildur Gudnadottir's "Joker" score wins the Golden Globe.

The biggest surprise at the Globes was MISSING LINK winning for Best Animated Film--beating out FROZEN 2, TOY STORY 4, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD, and THE LION KING. Even the winners were astonished at their win. Perhaps the Hollywood Foreign Press decided to award the only nominee that wasn't a sequel or a remake.

Congratulations to Quentin Tarantino, who took the Best Screenplay award and award for Best Picture-Comedy or Musical for ONCE UPON A TIME...IN HOLLYWOOD. Brad Pitt also won as Best Supporting Actor.

You all still watch this stuff? I heard five seconds of it at work passing by a television and heard some SJW complain there were no female directors nominated. Blah, blah, blah....

I think the Globes are the only ones I can stomach these days...AND that's only if Ricky Gervais is hosting.
The Oscars are an unwatchable puke fest to me (they always were, but they seem even worse these days).
At least Gervais makes enough pithy comments and squirmage to make the event just about tolerable.
But awards ceremonies in general are pretty gross.

Just watched the opening monologue on YT...

God Bless Ricky Gervais. He really stuck it to the audience of virtue signalling SJWS*

The attendees have no sense of humour. Even Arfur Grant has more sense of humour than those self important wankers!

* Gervais 'complained' that more people of color didn't pass away the past year wink

You misunderstood. That was Gervais, too, mocking the all-male nominees. He went on to say that the Hollywood Foreign Press has taken action to see that this doesn't happen again. They have been in touch with the studies, who have agreed not to hire any female directors in the future. Hence, with no females to nominate...problem solved.

Gervais said that "We were gonna do an 'In Memorium' this year, but when I saw the list of people that had died, it wasn't diverse enough. It was mostly white people. And I thought, 'Nah, not on my watch' Maybe next year, Let's see what happens."

I've only seen the Ricky Gervais opening monologue of this show, which is all over the internet. Great stuff. Although Tom Hanks clearly didn't appreciate it. He's far too wholesome to get that kind of acidic, politically incorrect humour.

The music winner was predictable, let's put it at that way. I'll leave it at that.

Gervais' most caustic joke:

"Talking to all you perverts, it was a big year for pedophile movies: SURVIVING R. KELLY, LEAVING NEVERLAND, THE TWO POPES.

Well, that joke is a bit old now. But yeah -- good ribbin'.

Gervais performance was so contrived in its determination to be "politically incorrect" above all else, it came across to me as a lot of pretentious tripe.

I completely disagree. It's perfectly in line with what he's been doing for years and his comedian personality. Nothing 'strained' about it. But it's no doubt a form of comedy that is appreciated more over on these here shores than in the US, and especially in US industry circles. Although I was relieved to see quite a few of the celebs in the audience 'getting it'. It no doubt helps that they knew what they were expecting this time, as opposed to Gervais' first Golden Globes gig years ago.

The Oscar Nominations for Best Score will have different names on their List.

To think..John Williams name will not be added...would be foolish.

Just watching the monolgue I couldn't help but feel embarrassed for myself and the people who attend theses events.
Are you really that full of yourself and covetous of glory, that you would debase yourselves in such a manner?
Renting a tuxedo or designer dress just to attend a grotesque self- congratulatory spectacle?

Come on Bobby...cmon Quentin.
If you were REALLY cool you'd blow these things off. Like Brando, Woody, and George C. Scott. Now those dudes have class!
