The film opens tomorrow in the USA (I think).
Doesn't look that great, from what I've seen and Downey has adopted a silly voice for it.
Looks similar to OZ and those ALICE IN WONDERLAND films.
Lots of fake looking digital trickery.
BUT!!!
Danny Elfman (and Co?) might rescue some of it.
No CD announced frown
That's a bummer (if you're old school).

Sorry if there's another thread. I couldn't find it!

The score, let's hope for the best. The Film...just looking at the poster image on Amazon Prime gave me the shudders. Why Mr. Downey Jr. decided to do this is anyone's guess. This year's version of 'CATS'? Is Judi Dench involved as a voice?

Can I chime in and say it looks horrible, or will I be accused of being a hater and negative contributor on FSM?

So far it seems to be getting mostly negative reviews. The headline of the review in my local newspaper today is actually "History repeats itself with 'Dolittle' bomb," clearly referencing the Rex Harrison version (the initial paragraph actually talks about that film's failure critically and commercially).

Three fails for me. RDJ doing an impersonation of Johnny Depp doing Doctor Dolittle, talking animals and... a dragon. A dragon?! Well four if you include the hideous CGI.

There was a fella used to work in my office known as Dolittle, only he didn't talk to animals.

My first impression is that it's Elfman in his modern fantasy mode with a fair bit more quirk.

The themes aren't as instant as they usually are - the main theme recalls the main theme to Oz (minus the Oh Canada section). There's a very nice theme for Dolittle's late wife, and there's some very exciting action music with some fun percussion stuff.

If you didn't like Oz or the quirkier sections of Alice Through the Looking Glass, you won't like this.

I enjoyed it, but I'm looking forward to 'The Woman in the Window' for something different. Or if it's a quasi sequel to 'The Girl on the Train', that's fine, too - love that score.

This is definitely crazy, that a Danny Elfman score didn't have a thread before the day the film opened.

I made one when his involvement was first announced, but I couldn't find it again.

Still crazy that no one cares!

Is it? Looks like it's going to be the biggest flop of the year (and we're barely two weeks in!). People don't care. All the busiest threads for upcoming scores are for sure-to-be-big franchise movies. Nobody's posting about Doyle's Artemis Fowl or Giacchino's Utropica or any number of scores by name composers for the same reason.

If you think this movie looks horrible, that just makes you someone with two eyes and a functioning brain.

$180 million for this? Geesh.

Still, I'm sure the music will be fantastic.

Yeah, it's just crazy because we used to talk about these scores at length and now the threads come and go so fast.

Neither film and neither of those two sounds tracks is released. What can we say about "Giacchino's Utropica", which we haven't heard? What can we say about "Doyle's Artemis Fowl" which we haven't heard?

The film is TERRIBLE. I mean it's just a misfire on so many levels.

And Elfman's score sounds like a rehash of ALICE and OZ without any memorable themes.

Music is out from Backlot. You can literally listen to the whole thing on YouTube for free.

Listening on Spotify now.
It's textbook Elfman alright.
Almost a 'Now That's What I Call Danny Elfman' kind of thing.
Of course, if you dig his style, job's a goodun.
