Having a Jerry Goldsmith-conducted version of one of my favorite Beethoven movements (complete!) is just amazing, and it shows he was really a decent conductor at this point in his career.

What is it about the Goldsmith-conducted Beethoven that "shows he was a really decent conductor at this point in his career"?

I second that. High Velocity and Breakout are two of my absolute favorites of his 70s scores.

They are two of my absolute favorite Goldsmith scores from any decade (though I realize I'm in the minority there). I rank them both above their younger sister score Caboblanco probably because neither depends upon pre-existing music at all. That said Caboblanco has risen in my estimation quite a bit since this new issue from LLL, and I actually love most of the source music so...

CABOBLANCO is a top 10 Goldsmith score for me.

I remember! I wouldn't go that far, but it is certainly wonderful. Have you heard our podcast episode on it yet? I particularly love Chris Malone's story early on about his daughter improvising a ballet to the Main Title...

I played this quite a lot at one time (and fondly remember discussing it with Wilcox, D). I generally skipped the Hawaiian music.

Lovely to be remembered, TG, and I actually remembered that discussion once it was clarified that we were discussing not CABOBLANCO but IN HARM'S WAY (which, along with ISLANDS IN THE STREAM, ranks at the top of my Goldsmith favorites). I completely agree with those who are applauding the major improvement in sound quality of the LLL release of CABOBLANCO -- very impressive -- but I am not a huge fan of this score. "The Very Thought of You" is a little weak for the role it plays in the film, which itself was more than a little weak IMHO. A good pairing, then, you might say! Not. I think some Hawaiian music might actually have been an improvement... Or perhaps, "As Time Goes By"?

The movie is suppose to happen in Chile, so hawaiian music is a big no.

Honestly, Dana, they all merge into one.

But exchanges with you are harder to forget smile
