If you stick through the end credits KEVIN KINER is credited with additional music...

Kiner has been working with Gunn on the Peacemaker TV series so I suppose that makes a lot of sense he would bring him on for additional work here.

Saw the movie opening weekend, and listened to the score by itself yesterday and the soundtrack. The movie was pretty good. Maybe the best of this phase (not including Spider-Man), which I know doesn't say much since most have been bad or meh, but it was a good movie and a good exit for the series. I liked Murphy's score in the film, and listening to it yesterday, and again as I type this, I really enjoy it. I especially like the quiet moments and the operatic track Mo Ergaste Forn. Yes, Bates' original theme is in the movie and in a couple of tracks in the score (Guardians vs. Hell Spawn & Domo! Domo!), and it's effective when it's used. Nice touch.

I've enjoyed the soundtracks and song choices/placement in the movies for the first two (the Awesome Mixes Vol. 1 & 2), mostly, but my biggest criticism of this film is the over use, and sometimes poor choices of songs in the film. The songs in the previous two films seemed organic; like they belonged and were just part of the movie enhancing what was taking place on screen much the way good film scores enhance/compliment a scene. In this movie, the songs mostly seemed forced, and there were several scenes where a character is seen choosing a song on the Zune and then walking around singing along. Almost like Gunn felt at this point people expected a song to be used for almost every scene, or he had songs he just wanted to put in the movie so let's cram one in here and one there- hey, they started the space ship! Perfect spot to cram a song in at full volume just like when you get in the car, crank the ignition and find you had a CD playing at full volume. Just didn't work for me. The song choices weren't very strong or fitting either. I listened to the sound track yesterday and have been playing it in my truck going home from work and then taking the kids to school on my way to work this morning. I don't care much for it as a stand alone album. I usually enjoy how different the songs are from each other as they are in the first two albums, but not here. They don't flow well together at all. I guess the songs are more modern compared to the first 2 films, and I don't like most of them. Some are flat out annoying. My kids love the first 2 soundtracks, and actually asked me, "What is this?" with a tone of disapproval this morning. Guess I'm not the only one, and they have much different taste than I do when it comes to songs. Surprisingly, I think my favorite song there is No Sleep Till Brooklyn by the Beastie Boys one of the more modern songs and I absolutely hate rap and hip hop. For some reason, however, I like a lot of their early stuff. Maybe because there wasn't a ton of swearing that they resorted to later.

Anyhow, I thought I'd give my review of all three (movie, score and soundtrack) to try and bring a little closure to this thread since we tend to criticize things before they come out before even hearing anything. Now I've seen and heard everything involved with this film, and there's my opinion. Remember, opinions are worth what you pay for them-absolutely nothing. I'd use another analogy, which is funnier, but I'm trying to keep it classy. Like San Diego.
