Roger Feigelson writes: We won't have anything coming this Tuesday, but we have a few things happening on the 19th. Here's the scoop. 1. Just in time for Miklos Rozsas' 115th birthday is a 2-CD set of Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid: Suhweet! I can retire the otherwise excellent Miklós Rózsa Film Music Vol. #2 CD now. A double-CD set from Intrada, no less. This is one of those film scores whose main theme I find myself humming far too frequently for sane behaviour in a grown man.

I guess we'll find out how much longer the complete score is, when Intrada has their actual announcement text. But clearly the Prometheus wasn't complete. Since it came out decades ago, I'll bet the new Intrada will also sound better. The cover is a clear improvement to say the least, and I'm also interested to discover who wrote the new liner notes. My money is on Frank DeWald who did such excellent work with Lukas Kendall on the Miklos Rozsa Treasury box set for FSM. Can't wait to learn further details! Yavar

I guess we'll find out how much longer the complete score is, when Intrada has their actual announcement text. But clearly the Prometheus wasn't complete. Bill Wrobel did one of his film score rundowns for DEAD MEN DON´T WEAR PLAID on the Rozsa board in 2012 and had a copy of the full score from the UCLA in his hands: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/miklosrozsa/dead-men-don-t-wear-plaid-full-score-research-t1414.html Mainly some short cues - many of them not even one minute long - were missing from the Prometheus CD. The longest missing cue seems to be a "Fiesta" source music (10M105 with a duration of 2:00 minutes). And there are a few jazzy pieces in the film (which partly replaced the Rozsa material) as well as at least two songs ("Title Song" sung by Steve Martin, "Dead Men´s Bolero" sung either by Steve Goodman or Paul Williams). The boot with Rozsa´s complete score also had a few alternate tracks and according to A. Lee Hern a running time of 66 minutes: "The Prometheus disc runs 47:37 (including the demo on the last track), whereas my copy runs 1:06:40 (including the ingratiatingly loopy song sung by Paul Williams, and some alternative cues, a difference of 19:03. A couple of tracks are raw cues, with the engineer calling out slate numbers)." https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/miklosrozsa/viewtopic.php?t=1106&sid=e9d3ae059a357a9a9df36a2ae8c45217

Doug’s Corner: 4/16/2022 New music to go with chocolate eggs and meaningful Easter celebrating. On deck here for Tuesday release is Miklos Rozsa’s dynamic, classic-style soundtrack - his final such effort - for Carl Reiner’s 1982 film noir homage, Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid, starring Steve Martin, a 2-CD set released as part of the ongoing Universal Pictures Film Music Classics Collection. Also available at last is Laurence Rosenthal’s masterpiece, Becket, retaining the original stereo program that Rosenthal assembled back in 1964. It’s an absolutely massive work for orchestra and chorus, played by the Sinfonia Of London under Muir Mathieson. Recently made available again is Jerry Goldsmith’s sensational 1966 epic, The Sand Pebbles. Our previous 2-CD set has been given a revisit with some modest tweaks to the audio and a re-sequencing that places Goldsmith’s (and our) favorite “Overture” at the start with the other version playing as an overture to the second half of the score - and now on the same disc, allowing listeners to enjoy both magnificent pieces without having to flip the discs. Golly! https://store.intrada.com/s.nl/sc.13/category.60330/.f

Still wondering when the new "Julius Caesar" will be available. I check qobuz almost daily. Previously their 'limited for 45 days' albums didn't have the digital up until after the CD was gone, and since they stopped selling this, it'll probably still be another while after they start selling it (which I suppose isn't yet) I guess I'll have to be patient then.
