Very sad news. I still listen to many of her songs. She always seemed to be a cheerful, kind person. She fought a brave battle against cancer. RIP, you'll be missed.
Australia must be devastated by this, coming so soon after the death of Judith Durham last Friday. Although Newton-John was born in Britain and hadn't lived in Australia since 1975, I always thought of her as being Australian, and she owned property there until 2019. I suspect the Aussies still consider her to be a "native daughter."
I think of her every time I watch Jaws. You can hear her song ("I honestly love you") playing on the radio in the scene on the beach when Brody is talking to his wife. RIP.
One of my all time favourite musicals is GREASE and I love her songs with ELO in XANADU. I even enjoyed that terrible death/devil film she was in with John Travolta just after GREASE (can't even recall its title). And she was super cute. So sad. RIP sweet lady.
It's funny, you hear her on the radio for who knows how long and then see Grease and holy cow is that one pretty girl behind the voice! What a lovely performance (blanking out the transformation at finale). And it was kinda neat seeing her hoofing with Gene Kelly in Xanadu.
Here and there this morning I've watched a couple of her latter day interviews. It is so rare to see someone handle what she went through with such grace and composure. She was the first to say she had her days, but no matter who she was talking with, she never once (that I could see) showed the turmoil that goes hand in hand with cancer.
A role model to look up to. Such people provide hope.
The first song by Olivia I ever heard was "If Not For You." That one remains my favorite one of hers.
Same here. And I loved that distinctive slide guitar work, and it was one of many of Bob Dylan's songs that were covered by other artists. Strangely enough, even though it was her first Top 40 hit, which was released in the Summer of '71, you can't find it on any of her C.D. compilations.
R.I.P. Olivia Newton-John, you're now singing with the angels.
