Hey all. I know La La Land Record's Point Break is long out of print but does anyone know if a reputable online retailer has it anywhere? I see a Limited Edition release that has the Never Cry Wolf score attached to it. It's more reasonably priced. How similar is that to the LLL release?

Any information anyone has on this score would be much appreciated.

How funny, Peter, I pulled this to play today and checked discogs, for fun...

To my delight, and horror, it's going in the Hundreds!

Wish I could help, hope you find a copy or a reissue happens, since it's a most excellent piece.

I am so tempted to pay the 150 dollars for it but I need to sit on it a bit and wait. This really is a fantastic score. This was released literally just before I discovered LLL, Intrada, and other specialty labels!

Yes, a CD reissue would be most welcome.

PA
Don't
It will happen, a reissue, at some point. In this era, forking out 3 digits for anything is follie

That one is a bootleg, so it's up to you how you feel about that.

I've been looking for the LLL one for years as well and some time ago I was extremely lucky and found a copy for $30 on eBay.

But considering the film is quite popular I wouldn't be surprised if the score get's a re-release some day

I managed to grab a copy on Ebay around 2 years ago for €50 - I was so happy, had been searching for a long while. It's the most I've spent on a used CD. Great score!

I passed on the LLL edition cos I already had the boot (which does sound great, tbh).
That was when 'the boots' were lovingly packaged and could be bought from our usual soundtrack retailers.
In some instances, they still sound better to me than the legit copies that appeared later (PREDATOR & DIE HARD, to my ears).

When this was being released I was so excited. I thought it was a great electronic score. I couldn’t wait to place my order to get an autographed copy. If I remember, I don’t think the autographs went that fast.

Thanks everyone. I’ll hold off for now and hope for a reissue. It’s a real shame this hasn’t been revisited.

How is it in terms of music released? Is it mostly complete? Is it free of sound effects? I still prefer a reissue and will wait around for that.

I know it's not cool to even mention these things around here, so apologies in advance.
It's one of those older 'pressed CD' boots/promos with a barcode and basic, but attractive packaging (many were actually manufactured by our beloved labels during these times and I bought most of mine from SAE and Intrada, so the money went to our guys).
It's always sounded great to me (no sound FX or such like). Just clean tapes from the sound of it (probably lifted from a composer's own promo).
1 - 22 tracks = POINT BREAK - 54 mins approx / 23 - 32 = NEVER CRY WOLF - 25 mins approx.

Full disclosure...I'm a huge Mark Isham fan but POINT BREAK has never been a particular favourite of mine by him.
It's got some cool tracks, but it's way down any Top (Whatever) lists of Best Scores by him.
Probably why I stuck with the promo CD.

LLL release is 66 min. and AFAIK it contains the complete score. Maybe a rerelease could also include the songs/the songtrack album.
This and The Hitcher are among my favorite soundtracks from Isham.

Mark Isham remains #1 for me , through thick and thin. POINT BREAK benefits from being a great and popular film but it’s never been a score that’s been top for me in his output. There’s a few great tracks like Kev said but I’d much rather listen to many other of his scores to less popular films. It’s a good example of how much you rate a score to the movie or on the merits of the music alone.

Kev, would you say the best tracks from the movie are represented well and are all on the promo Cd?

Thanks to this thread, played this again today.

It's ALL good. Great Goldwasser essay as well.
Curious how & why Klaus Badelt is in the special thanks?

First in with orchestra for Isham, according to the notes, and the naive freshness, along Ken Kugler's orchestration prowess are inherent and most excellent. Skydive channels Vangelis, to me, in a good way.

Whoa.
Hope a reissue does happen someday.

Chances of a reissue are really slim because the film is now owned by WB and if they don't come around on their licensing deals and be more sensible not much is going to be coming out of that watertower vault in the near future unless it's a project already in perpetuity.
