Hello Team!

I have decided to direct a certain amount of the revenue from our new CD sale to improving this board. It has been a longtime coming. Another reason to buy: www.fsmcds.com

First, I need to get estimates from our designer.

So I need to know...what is it people want?

Improvements that are specific and limited are preferred. Big changes or add-ons are unlikely at this time.

Please summarize here.

Thanks!

Lukas

  • I wish quotes were more easily discernable than simply being italicized. Right now to make quotes readily distinguishable, I used HTML coding (without spaces):
    < blockquote>< hr>QUOTE< hr>< /blockquote>

  • I wish the search box wouldn't be down so often. Or that it did a better job at searching.

  • Maybe a poll option.

  • NO links allowed in posts by new users. Certain words trigger holds on accounts, leaving users only here for a week or two, unable to post ("spells" and other words).

  • New users (about two weeks or less here) can only create a new thread once every ten or so minutes.

Can we add a function to vett new members, in order to reduce spam and trolls?

First: I love this board, and thank you for keeping it alive and even offering improvements.

    Just two quick thoughts:

    - can you make the text one quotes visually more separate from the answers?

    - can the search function be improved?

Thank you again for all the hard work!

    Best regards,
    Stefan

Visually I find it perfect. It going down for hours is the only thing I want to see fixed!

To reduce spam (like the ”spells” stuff), there should be a feature that restricts new users from creating threads until they have made a certain number of posts on the forum.

I would love being able to go directly to the last post in a thread from the "overwiev" page instead of entering a thread and then jumping to the last post there.

Visually it is really fine. Maybe allowing a little bit bigger avatars ?

And, of course, the spam issue.

I would like a "like" button, like on Facebook.

    (1) Better search engine.
    (2) Restrict new members from creating threads until they've posted "X" amount of times in existing threads. This helps minimize spam.
    (3) Some way to know if the "report abuse" feature was used so we don't waist time reporting the same post multiple times.
(Maybe once a post was reported that feature becomes greyed out?)
    (4) Add more smilies. I'd like to add a thumbs up within the post.

    Minor stuff really!

    Great news!

    1. First and foremost: For the last few years, the board is sporadically down (2-3 times a week on average). All one gets is a blank page and the words "Service not available". Hopefully that can be fixed.

    2. Get the search engine working again. Even using the regular tricks, like putting things in quotes etc., or using Google instead, only gets you so far.

    3. Perhaps a more intuitive way of posting photos and videos. On most boards these days, these are automatically embedded when you put in the link, but this one still uses manual code that the user must type in. This is the LEAST important thing. If it requires a whole new and expensive board interface, it's NOT worth it.

Otherwise, I think the board works fine as is. True, it's an ancient layout -- a blast from the early 2000s -- but that's part of the charm, I suppose. Less fancy options make it easier to get an overview somehow.

I think the board is great. I would like the search engine to work.

Can't you do that already? Just go to the end of the line next to last posters name n press the little "View" button?

Perhaps better search options? I don’t get what I want sometimes.

Maybe a way to pin common/popular threads like the custom art thread... or announcements etc.

I like the new users post X replies before starting topics, but I think I've more frequently seen spam appear as in topic replies than as new topics (though it is massive when it's as new topics). So they could API 30 'Free Boobs!' replies, cross the line and spam the board with 'Free Boobs!' topics, then their mess is everywhere (effortlessly, on their part). Maybe instead vett the first ... three(?)-ish posted replies by new users? There may be current, trustworthy members willing to join a team on that. I think you'd have to be a real soundtrack person to adequately reply to three soundtrack topics. Just thinking aloud, here.

I like how a lot of boards have a button to click to take you to your first unread message (such as the blu-ray.com forum). And threads with unread messages are bolded whereas threads that I am "caught up" on are not bolded.

Maybe an advanced editor where we don't need to type code to Bol, Italicize, or Underline.

Just requests. If they are major changes that require a complete overhaul, I'm good with what we've got.

    Some things that'd be useful:

    1. THE NUCLEAR OPTION
To be able to delete your account and all posts.

    THE PERSONAL EXPORT OPTION
To be able as a member to export and save your posts.

    THE A.I. SCRIPT GENERATOR OPTION
Using the content in the board to create a film or sitcom about us soundtrack collectors. Just imagining the scene of The Mutant opening a new album, and smelling the booklets. Or cutting to Thor reacting to another expanded album, praising the original presentation. I really love this stuff.
