I was listening to some Barry last night. How many of us became film music fans because of Barry's scores? Who could watch a Bond film and not notice the unforgettable themes? He was awesome and will be missed.

He is a very big reason became film music fan. Some of my earliest were Barry.

I'm from New York, so it would be a stretch to be in London at your Pub farewell. Wish I could. I've been trying to figure out why John Barry's death hit me so hard. I've been listening to his music since the "Midnight Cowboy" days. His scores were such that I just didn't tire of them--a few months away and they'd sound as fresh as ever. A simple sound, yes, but so rich in emotion. As someone said earlier--melancholy but optimistic. Add me to those who looked at all the film releases, hoping to find his name there. That quest is over. I'll be raising a glass to him stateside.

Four years ago today. What will you play by way of remembrance?

Underrated film and score.

4 years...damn. How we miss him.

I have 'Peggy Sue Got Married', 'The Betsy', 'Swept From The Sea' and 'Across The Sea Of Time' sitting by my CD player, so I'll give them a spin. Love 'em all.

I was also listening to some of 'The Lion In Winter' on my way into work earlier.

Thanks, Stephen, for the reminder. I admit to being not the best with such dates (even family members ...)

And so it's pure coincidence that ...

... I'm presently listening to the first half of the disc The Early Years (just finished) ... I split the CD into two when I ripped it to my NAS.

... and, this morning, whilst on random play, I noted three JB cues in the approx. 50mins of play - a significant proportion! ... from Starcrash, King Rat and Mike's Murder

I think I shall choose a score later in the day. I haven't played Monte Walsh or Swept from the Sea for a long time so perhaps one of those ...

A near-lifetime of collecting his works ... a distinct failure to find anything therein which I don't enjoy. Very happy memories.
