Erk! He's wearing a Davy Crockett hat! Now we have to add Tiomkin's The Alamo to the never-ending list of guesses.

When I think of an 8 disc $120 boxset at 3000 units, I'm thinking of something with widspread appeal. TFTC is by far the last title I'd guess as it is far too obscure to qualify for something of this magnitude.

Agreed. MV and MVG are savvier than that. Which is why, yes captain_avis, I'm still debating this.

And there were arrows in that video so it has to be Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

I've known this all along, but I'll say it now so people don't waste their hopefully precious time.

The 8 disc set is the unreleased William Shatner recordings. It includes rehearsals, alternates, bloopers, and all that other crap. Also included are 20 different renditions of "Rocket Man." It's the Shat!

Exactly this. TFTC is an extremely niche choice. The show doesn't have the cache of Twilight Zone or even The Outer Limits. I can't see four years devoted to putting together a project dedicated to a show that... lets be honest, most have forgotten, or is just below the normal radar range.

However, the high price tag could be a way for LLL to make more $$ back on a low profile item.

Then again I wasn't convinced that a Ron Jones box set wasn't a viable idea either big grin

But all due respect to Lukas, whose passion for that project I can only admire, it turned out not to be viable. There was a lesson in that, and I think the other labels learned it.

Oh absolutely. I respect Lukas' passion for the project no matter how it turned out and to be clear I wasn't being snarky. Lukas no doubt knew the box was risky but was determined to complete what he thought was an important project. He's admitted a few times he pursued albums mostly because he felt it was music that needed to be heard, as he did in this case. And being fair, my feelings may well have been more my lack of knowledge of the Ron Jones scores since I couldn't stand the New Generation show.

That being said, I still don't see TFTC being that much of a marquee title.

I'm still wondering if we'll ever see a ROCKY BOXED SET?!

My thoughts exactly. When I think of an 8 disc $120 boxset at 3000 units, I'm thinking of something with widspread appeal. TFTC is by far the last title I'd guess as it is far too obscure to qualify for something of this magnitude. Seriously, I'm as big an 80's/90's score fan as anyone, but there is no way I'd drop that amount money on something as niche as this. I will be genuinely shocked if it is TFTC, but hey, what do I know.

---

Widespread appeal???

Alan Silvestri
Jay Ferguson
Nicolas Pike
Bruce Broughton
J. Peter Robinson
Michael Kamen
Jan Hammer
Michel Rubini
Ry Cooder
Joe Renzetti
Michel Colombier
Jonathan Elias
Miles Goodman
David Newman
James Horner
Cliff Eidelman
Brian May
Ira Newborn
Craig Safan
Bill Conti
Brad Fiedel
Sylvester Levay

Just to name a few...
That's a hell of alot more widespread appeal than 4 scores by Michael Kamen that sounds almost the same.

If the release turns out to be Tales From The Crypt LaLaLand's got my Money.

Not everyone is a fan of every composer. I wouldn't buy a box set unless it was composer specific or a style that was similar through out. The widespread appeal might be the "horror" score fan not the composers themselves in totality. Unless it's something like ST TOS I have littler interest in television scores as they are usually to minimalist.

That's probably 6 of the 8 CDs that I'd have zero interest in then.

I'd also point out that Intrada managed to sell out 3 2-Disk sets from Amazing Stories at 3,000 copies. Granted, the composer selection, overall, in that series was probably a bit more high profile on average but it might still demonstrate proof of concept.

As for Lethal Weapon, I think it's certainly within LLL's wheel house, but I'd expect to see it as a set of single film releases instead.

There's no way Lethal Weapon 1-4 would fill 8 discs. No way at all.

I probably would have said the same thing about Die Hard, and yet I have six Die Hard discs in my collection. Who knows how many alternates and/or Clapton/Sanborn/Kamen jam sessions there are, and if you throw in all the songs, it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility.

Yeah, the Ron Jones set (a much better deal at $150 for 14 discs rather than $120 for only 8) is certainly going to make any label reconsider large box sets for TV shows rather than individual volumes (yes, I know other licensing considerations went into the TOS box). At the very least I'd be shocked if a higher price point per disc were given to a less beloved/remembered show...

I'm stubborn and still holding out hope that LLL will release the complete remaining (surviving) Korngold recordings in a box set, produced by Lukas Kendall. Maybe if it's not this Christmas (though MV's comments about hunting down every scrap of music makes it sound it's a project *like* this) it can still come out for some future Christmas...

It does if you allow for 2 CDs worth of newly recorded interpretations of the love theme!

Chris.
