Many happy returns of the day to our beloved maestro! smile

He never ceases to amaze me with his boundless energy and gift for touching melody and scintillating dramatic music. May he be blessed with many more years of happy and prosperous life.

Happy b-day, Mr. Williams! It was because of you that I used to hum the Superman, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones themes as a kid. Also because of those and many of your other memorable scores that I became a fan of film music in general.

Happy Birthday Mr. Williams....

Thank you for giving me some of the most important music in my life.

Here is perhaps on of my favorite pieces, this piece was written for the soundtrack album of THE FURY, it doesn't appear in the film, but it's a piece that should be performed in concert.

10 seconds into the OST of Return of the Jedi (my first soundtrack CD) and I was hooked.

I cannot thank this man enough for his wonderful music which is definitely a (big) part of my life.
I wish him all the best!

Love the man, nothing more, nothing less to be said. Here's him at his best:

Bull, Mr. Williams is as original as a lots of classical composers. Heck Bach borrowed from Vivaldi. So what is the point?

Many thanks Judy for this thread. Yesterday we celebrated in France the "souvenir" of François Truffaut - who passed away many years ago. He would have turned 80! I listened to LES DEUX ANGLAISES ET LE CONTINENT.

Tomorrow - well, here in France it's already February 8th! - i still don't know what i will listen to : there are so many compositions i'm fond of! I'll make my mind up!

Anabel, I celebrated M. Truffaut's birthday as well and watched Day for Night, Shoot the Piano Player and Stolen Kisses. I regret that he did not live to be 80

Happy b to the maestro, who even at age 80 is teaching a master class in film score, and proving that neither orchestra nor lush melody is truly dead (no matter how much it may seem that way).

Happy Birthday, Johnny T. Williams! Eighty years young! Congratulations and a very heartfelt THANK YOU!

No other composer of film music has been able to make my heart race, melt, sigh and sing so consistently as Mr. Williams and I've created a lengthy compilation album to listen to and enjoy today in his honor.

Long live the maestro! Long live his music!

just listened to Close Encounters. Hope to hear The Patriot soon and then some time today, Star Wars and possibly beyond.

Happy 80th Maestro!

Here is a suite that I put together a few years ago highlighting some of the very best scores and cues of Williams' career!
