It’s great when more people now have the opportunity to legally own this great score. But at the risk of being a party pooper, I also understand that some people feel pissed. In fine arts, it would be considered totally unethical if an artist sold a limited edition, and then produced more prints. Also the value of his/her future “limited editions” would drop sharp.

I understand it’s not entirely the same thing here. The soundtrack “limited editions” are not just limited at the artist’s choice in order to maintain quality and exclusivity and according value, but for reasons of complicated licensing arrangements. But the former aspect should not entirely be neglected here.

It’s a dilemma. I’m not sure how to solve it.

if those limited titles got re-released again (by the same company f.C.S.!) for instance what they did with the Changeling, I think that is not a good sign and the term "limited" will definately lose its power at the end. I think that people start to loose faith in those companies who "break" their promise! They obviously only limit them to sell them out quickly!

These limited editions have become more and more stupid, in a way, I don't like to wake up at 5 or 6 AM to buy a CD - before it's vanished.
There is no "promise", the only business of FSM and others must be to make things avaible, not facilitate your little business.

I'm happy to see less text on any cover. Honestly, do we still have to be told it's an "original soundtrack"?

Traditions die hard. A strong graphic will say everything the buyer needs to know.

It’s a dilemma. I’m not sure how to solve it.

FSM made new artwork and improved the sound so it is a NEW version and not just a re-pressing of the old release.

We are here for the music, aren't we ??

This is great. I purchased the original issue soon after it came out, and I am extremely happy that more people will now be able to enjoy the score.

After reading Lukas' "2.0" notes, it sounds like this score is going on my wish list again!

Any possiblity on The Poseidon Adventure and Towering Inferno? (I've got the original copies, but I want to have improved sound and better artwork, the Poseidon artwork is really disaster to me)

I'll let FSM answer but as noted in the original booklet OMEGA MAN was a low budget score so re-use fees would be lower than usual. And as noted above this is costing them! So this smacks of a test case. If this sells well they may move to something more ambitious. But it has to sell awfully well. I hope this niche market has expanded sufficiently to make this pan out. I'm buying one even though I have the original. But there is an unlikelihood that big budget re-issues would follow if this does the same business as a good limited releaser would. They are looking for megabusiness.

I think we are, but that cannot be the answer to all doubts.

I am happy for those who never bought it and now have the opportunity, but here is another example of where I can "throw" away the original cd which I bought for quite some dollars.

I'd keep it. The previous release has that cute recording of Grainer working with the kids on "Mary Had a Little Lamb" that the new disc does not have. wink

And, important point, these CDs are sold at a standard price, not as really limited art items, so the original buyers can't pretend to be spoiled when a reedition occurs. The real business is on the speculators market - mostly sharks, in my mind. Watch the prices : it's insane.

Personally, I baught many of the original Varese club CDs. I'm happy they have been reedited.

The few people here who are dismissing
this new edition (or at the very least
seem somehow "betrayed" for purchasing
the first edition), really need to read
Lukas' new online liner notes. There
were certain keyboard (organ) overlays
missing on a handful of cues on the
original 2000 edition. This new cd
corrects this. This new cd is indeed
COMPLETE. Reason enough to purchase
the new version, imo. And you can
still keep your original cd, too!
I'm keeping mine and getting the new one.

Thanks again, Lukas!

how reliable are those so called" limited" editions nowadays. Again, nice for you guys who now doesn't have to pay the (F)Ebay rates..

Paid a lot for my copy of this as well, over $250 would love to see an end to all limited editions.

to limit a title is part of a commercial strategy and some sort of promise the releasing company gives us, if those limited titles got re-released again (by the same company f.C.S.!) for instance what they did with the Changeling, I think that is not a good sign and the term "limited" will definately lose its power at the end. I'm glad you are in the minority here with such a narrow minded opinion.

I welcome any new pressing of a sold out title.

I understand the poster. It's great for those who didn't buy it the first time around.

It does devalue the original issue.

It does make it tough for those who want to have the "definitive" issue of the title.

I don't understand this at all. What do you mean "devalue", you mean sell it on ebay - good, you should be buying these discs to enjoy the music, not as an investment (& remember, investments can go down as well as up), or is it as some sort of mad collector, "I must have something no-one else had got" thing.

And what do you mean to have the "definitive" issue, it makes no sense, unless it means that you want to own something that's sold out. I've had that madness in the past, thank god I'm not a "collector" anymore. I have quite a few deleted discs & would be delighted if they were re-issued.

I will be very glad to own a copy of this one myself. I have resisted ever getting someone to upload or burn a copy for me, because I hoped a good deal might come along on ebay at the right price. And a good deal has certainly come along at the right price!

Many thanks, FSM. Of all the ones to reprint, this is the one I'm most interested in.

Should I remain positive or bitch and groan and curse???

I paid good money for the original on eBay!... GOOD MONEY!!!

The same with THE BURBS but at least Intrada's reissue was expanded with more score music.

This is the third time this particular score is released. The second time was by placing that big order.

Is it at least EXPANDED in any way, shape, or form to make me feel better? Screw liner notes! I don't listen to those and don't care for them.

I still dare not look at Screen's website. It hurts!

My selfishness aside. Good news for the people who never got this.

BTW, great score!!!

All the people who are "pissed" about this re-release should keep in mind that a limited edition is only limited insofar as the particular instance in question is concerned. There is no stated or implied promise to NEVER again release the same material. The "promise" is only in collectors' minds. THE OMEGA MAN WAS limited, exactly as stated and has remained so for many years. Now it's out again. No one's been lied to.

What if some other label besides FSM were to acquire the rights and release it again? Would their feet be held to the fire for reissuing something that was once only available for a limited time and from an entirely different company? No. So what's the difference?

FSM isn't responsible for making sure that your collection retains its original value. Their chosen work is to try and get this stuff out to the widest possible audience. They should be congratulated for it. Keep them reissues comin'!

It's all about money! Nothing wrong with that of course... to a certain extent.

Great news! Thanks very much to FSM for rereleasing this. I never got the chance to order the original release. I'll order this in the near future for sure.
Praise must also go to FSM for their determination not to get swept up by this whole limited edition game. Good to see that this music will also be available for future generations.

This might not be likely, but I really hope they might be able to reissue The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno in the future as well.
