I think the idea makes sense. There are some titles that though you can find them on the secondary market, you do have to pay a little bit for them, so does it make more sense to make a 1000 or 500. I think for some of these titles where they have been out of print for decades, but don't fetch CRAZY prices on the secondary market, a 500 unit release makes sense. Robert has his Encore club and those are usually 1000 or 1200 or so. This 500 doesn't fit that mold so we decided on a smaller unit, 500 which I think for some titles will fit this new series quite well, Agnes Of God being one of them. These will be in CD cases and we're remaster these when we can like the announcement said. New liner notes? I don't know about that as Robert is handling this new series. Agnes Of God will be divided into cues this time so that will please many, myself included!

The Little Box Of Horrors was a combined effort from Cary Mansfield, Bryon Davis and me, Peter Hackman aka drivingmissdaisy. I'm very happy with the way it turned out and it's a great deal for what you get. If you aren't interested in it, that is COMPLETELY fine. There are so many other great releases by all the other labels we all treasure so much.

This should be a fun hobby; collecting/listening to soundtracks and no one, myself included, should ever get so upset where they are foaming at the mouth or cursing people. At the end of the day we all love this interesting type of music and our community is quite small actually. There is no soundtrack release that should ever get anyone so upset that they are foaming at the mouth in anger, at the end of the day, these are just soundtracks. The world will go on, your life will go on and there are bigger issues out there than soundtrack releases.

smile

Your comments are spot on! Un-fortunately for a small few, this will go in one ear and right out the other...

Just let them whine, they'll never be happy. I, for one, am completely grateful for our beloved labels which very much includes Varese!!

Never seen the film, though. Is it worth it?

It's a tough movie to recommend. It's handsomely mounted and features some fine acting (it's a shame that Fonda is more famous for being Jane Fonda than her immense talent), but ultimately it never decides what it wants to be; mystery, police procedural, courtroom drama, meditation on faith, etc. It flits around between agendas, losing so much focus that it fails to earn any of its payoffs. It's not helped much by Delerue's score, which is so beautiful on the album but barely in the movie. I think it's spotted with maybe 15-20 minutes of music. More music might have helped the film's disparate strands coalesce a little better.

"Don't get smart, but yes."

(this is a movie reference, not an actual belief)

It's not every day I get a chance to reprint the capsule review of AGNES OF GOD that I wrote for my junior high school paper.

My two millennial generation kids are forever telling me that many of their peers are a bunch of whiny, spoiled babies. I am beginning to think they should also assign this characterization to their peers' parents and grandparents. Yeesh.

The negativity, whining and rudeness in the seven pages of this thread reminds me why I stopped visiting this board so often. I don't know what it is about niche interests (which, let's face it, this is) that brings out the crazies, but it's this sort of person who has actually made me seek out other music genres and has been responsible in part for my waning interest in film scores lately. It is totally off-putting to me to think that I share an interest with the negative contributors on this thread (and many other threads here).

I'm very happy about this release. Well done Varese! I'm going to buy it. Thanks Peter Hackman too for always being a very nice and polite person, it's much appreciated by me anyhow.

I like this score a great deal, one of my favorites from this period in Delerue's career. This will be a triple dip, having bought the Varese LP, and then straight CD reissue. I've no problem with the sound, but a remaster piques my interest, and I'm especially intrigued that this will be split into individual cues. The suites are fine but I tend to listen to my favorite bits and move on. I agree with the earlier poster's bemusement at the new series but I am not running the company, thank goodness. I'm not sure how patient I'd be with some of the more ... passionate fans of the genre. This is fine music from a pioneering label and I'll be pleased to buy it.

I don't think this is remastered. The press blurb never said it was.

I don't think this is remastered. The press blurb never said it was.

That's actually true, the post said: "We have even taken advantage of the opportunity to re master many of these to give them just a little extra shine." so there's no telling if Agnes Of God is one of the many or not. They did mention that full details will be announced on the day it's released. What I hope this doesn't turn into is no mention of remastering either way on the day of release and then 500 people who already own the original release buy it before it sells out, hoping that it's remastered and then find out it's not.

Mike it did say that titles in this series would be remastered or did I read it wrong?

I just have this dream and hope that one of these days, discussions will actually be about the music or the film, instead of various collector issues (limited editions, sale times, postage issues, remasterings etc.) -- in other words, everything AROUND the music itself.

But those of us who long for that, seem to be a dying breed.

I just have this dream...

This is apparently a lie.
And the rest is probably self-absorbed BS too.

'Dream' in a figurative sense. Perhaps 'hope' is a better word.

But hardly 'self-absorbed BS'. Just taking a quick glance at the threads will give you the answer -- you usually have to dig deep and hard to find aesthetic discussions about music and film in these announcement threads.

Speaking of missing discussion components, I hope the powers-that-be are able to deal with the present cyber/spam attack.

The other day, one of the board admins said not to reply to spam threads, as it makes it more difficult to remove the posts. Looks like someone saw that, and is creating additional accounts to add replies as well.

Really? They just seem like spambots, not like actual people doing it?

I hope everyone respects David's wishes, and doesn't respond to any of them. I'm not sure if they've woken up in the US yet, so it might take awhile before they're deleted.

How is remastering a 'collector's issue'? The sound quality of a release is a huge part of listening to the music.

Certainly in this case, it being remastered or not will decide if I buy it again.
