To be released on June, 18th by Warner !!

I just notices this on iTunes.

There is going to be a second release besides the score for World War Z.

An EP is going to be released digitally tomorrow; it is entitled: World War Z Remixes. Here is the track listings:

01) Like a River Around a Rock (Mystery Skulls Remix)
02) Ninja Quiet (Justin Warfield Remix)
03) Philadelphia (Future Funk Squad Remix)
04) NJ Mart (BLKHRTS Remix)

This is quite unexpected. To my knowledge it is also the first time Beltrami's music has been remixed and produced on a separate EP album.

Sounds fucking awesome to me! Can't wait to hear the whole thing. Any ideas how much music was actually recorded and is missing from the album?

Please do not quote me on this! smile Nearest I can tell, parts of the film were re-scored and re-recorded a few times, but the final recorded score mix (including alternates and music unincluded) is around 135 min. Again, this includes alternates and music not included in the final cut of the film, obviously, since the film's runtime is 116 min.

Personally I'm going to stay away from this, although I may give a listen out of curiosity. Beltrami had nothing to do with remixing these cues, it seems like a post-score-production way for the studio to make more money off the movie and score in satellite ways. Reeks of a more money attitude and I feel like dilutes the effectiveness of the score. But again, that's just me, some people may enjoy them. And of course you never know, they may be enjoyable, but my primary interest here is Beltrami's music (shocker! wink).

Both the score as well as the remixes are on Spotify. Listening to score right now, sounds great. But of course I expected nothing less of Beltrami. He has one hell of a year! Might give the remixes a listen out of morbid curiosity...

A bit too dark for my tastes, which is ironic because the reviews suggest that this is not a horror film. About half of the tracks are very ambient, not my style at all. The other half are dark orchestral horror/action cues that I'm sure work well in the film but don't really grab my attention either. It has a very modern Zimmer sound to the whole thing. Then again I've never really been a fan of Beltrami so I'll leave it for the fans.

This one is a disappointment to this Beltrami fan's ears (though the film doesn't inspire confidence in even me). I am greatly anticipating Snowpiercer and The Wolverine (less so Carrie).

I have not read the book that this was based on, and I am pretty old-school in my zombie movie tastes -- I prefer Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" over all the post-modern remakes and spinoffs, or "The Walking Dead" TV show -- but I really enjoyed what they did with the genre, and found it pretty scary. It's not blood and guts gory, but the action is intense, with horrific swarms of undead like something out of Hieronymous Bosch. I thought Pitt did a good job, and Beltrami's score served the movie in a boisterous fashion. Overall, I found it effective and gripping, and I felt uneasy on my commute back home. I hope that I will not die with those words in my mouth, because if I do I'm sure that after a short interval I will lurch horribly and then reanimate with my gnashers snapping at your neck.

Just finished watching the film and agree with everything you said although I'm more a Walking Dead fan rather than Romero. All in all a nice surprise.

According to the opening credits, Additional music by Matthew Bellamy of Muse which I didn't know beforehand. It was recognisable if you like Muse and seemed to fit the scenes it was used for.

I think your instincts are right on man. Although I feel World War Z is a great score, Snowpiercer and The Wolverine are phenomenal scores. People will be blown away by them. I didn't think Beltrami could top Snowpiercer for a long time (let alone this year), but Wolverine is nearly as outstanding.

Just had my first listen of this and I also feel a bit underwhelmed. I'm looking forward to the film but the score (although enjoyable enough) just doesn't seem to stand out in any way.
Its ironic that due to the film that its done for, more people will probably seek this one out than Marco's brilliant underrated score to DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK which was one of the best horror scores in recent years (IMHO!)
Looking forward to SNOWPIERCER and WOLVERINE though, due to the ever reliable 'Deputy's comments.

Listening to the "Snowpiercer"-piece on youtube right now - and I love it!

With this, WWZ and THE WOLVERINE, could 2013 be the year Beltrami finally gets his deserved big break?

There are good moments, but, personally, I could have done without some of the electronic "decoration".

and that's only a mock-up. Unless someone ripped and posted the cue included on Kraft-Engel Mngmt website...

It's a mockup that is pretty illegally posted, but then it is youtube.

It is about 1/10 as good as the actual orchestral, polished cue...personally, I recommend people skip the mockup and wait for the real deal, it is so unbelievably worth it! I know Milan has been trying for a score release, but as Lokutus said with the film's US premiere a distance away I doubt there will be any score release news soon unfortunately.

Beltrami should get a medal for even surviving WWZ's decathlon of changes, demands, and pressures...and yet still delivering a powerhouse, brutally efficient score.

Nice review James. Definitely need to try and give this a better listen. A first listen just didn't leave much of an impact.
