Star Trek: The Motion Picture, can I get a huzzah?

-Rick O.

huzzah!

1. Independence Day
Not that I wasn't already a huge fan of the score to begin with, but with new tracks like "Area 51/The Big Tamale/Formaldehyde Freak Show", "Slimey Wakes Up", and "The Launch Tunnel/Mutha Ship/Virus Uploaded", this was like listening to a whole new score.

"Virus Upload" to the end of "He Did it!" was the highlights for me. I had been wanting forever to hear those outside of the film.

Same here!!! Especially track 3 on Disc 2, oh my God. I used to replay that part over and over again just to hear the music! I jumped out of my seat when I saw LLL announce this.

I have way, way too few of them, but even if I had every one they've ever done, Star Trek - The Motion Picture would probably be in one of the top two or three slots. As it is, of all the ones I own, it's easily my favorite - there is no comparison.

So difficult to even pick just a top 10...

....so I will just mention the amazing Independence Day set again....and also be the first (I think) to raise my glass to the Masters of the Universe release...

....and finally to mention that out of all my score CD's, possibly the one that has had most time in my CD player over the past few years is the wonderful Blazing Saddles.

BLAZING SADDLES is fantastic! So glad that I picked this one up when I had the chance. SPACEBALLS is another fun listen.

I still debate on whether or not to pick up The Golden Child. The samples sound cool. Are there a lot of action tracks?

Quite a few action tracks for sure but overall a balanced listen . The rejected Barry score is IMO a excellent. I like a lot of Colombier's work but his score here is not his best.

It's rare you find anything bad out of John Barry though lol. He's one of those composers whose worst work is above average.

Speaking of Eddie Murphy movies though, did anyone here ever watch Coming to America? I know it has a really small score, but I'd love to see that get a release someday. I've always hoped to see MV surprise us with it sometime.

I'm happy to say the ST:TOS box set is the crown jewel of my collection.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence is a great release.
