I have recently watched 3.2 series of Have Gun - Will Travel, much of which i rather enjoy and there was some ace Jerry Goldsmith scoring in a recent episode, and there's stars like Ben Johnson, George Kennedy and Rober Blake turning up. Very interested to see if David Mamet goes through with the new series. I'd be very interested in it - lots of potential there.

And onto The Rat Patrol...

That's the last season of "Quincy" I was hoping would get to DVD since it has the great dual-role episode by Jessica Walter who murders her own twin sister and then takes her identity. Later seasons are nothing more than Jack Klugman op/ed pieces. I will get this on release day!

But alas, Shout still keeps two other Universal classics, "Ironside" and "Marcus Welby MD" in limbo-land and without momentum on those, I can never be 100% satisfied with what they do.

Well at least we can bump the old Quincy thread again.

Season 3 of "The FBI" now available from Warner Archive! This is the first year with William Reynolds (whose earlier series "The Gallant Men" was also released by Warner Archive a month ago) as Special Agent Tom Colby.

A few weeks ago we reported that Universal's upcoming individual release of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century - Season 2 had been delayed from mid-November, to a January 8th street date. We've learned today that one of the reasons for this change is because the studio has reworked the set to free up room to include an alternate version of the original pilot film, "Awakening," on it.

For those of you who don't recall, the Gil Gerard-starring production was originally made available to theaters in March 1979, and then over the summer was re-worked to make it a pilot for an ongoing television series. Scenes with adult language were removed, and other scenes were added...including one at the end where Buck declined to officially join Wilma and Dr. Huer at the Directorate. The on-DVD version of "Awakening" has all along been the original cinematic version, but now Universal is going to include the changed-for-TV version of it, which was made into "Part 1" and "Part 2" for re-run purposes (note that previous releases, such as the 2004 DVD set of The Complete Epic Series, called it "Awakening, Parts 1 & 2" on the menus, despite it being the un-split theatrical edit).

So now fans who would like the alternate changed-for-TV edition of "Awakening" will be able to own it on DVD. But, if you already own the old Complete Epic Series set (as I do), and you want the alternate TV version of the "Awakening" story, then you might be wondering how to get it without rebuying the second season episodes. The short answer, as far as we know, is "you can't." The studio has announced no plans, at this time in any case, to make it available to Buck Rogers fan in any other way except by purchasing this January release. If something changes about that, however, we'll certainly let you know.

Yesterday CBS/Paramount announced a 56-DVD release of Mission: Impossible - The Complete Television Collection, a gift set which is scheduled to hit stores on December 11th. It's been noticed that the 9 seasons included in this set (the 7 from the original show, and the 2 from the late-'80s remake) when released separated came up to 55 discs, so what is the 56th DVD in this new release? The studio has now revealed to retailers that the new disc with this gift set will include special bonus features such as Brand-New Featurettes, Episodic Promos, a Photo Montage with a Vocal version of the Mission: Impossible Theme (performed by The Kane Triplets), "and more!" This, along with the collectible packaging (seen again below), is the studio's way of enticing the show's most passionate fans to double-dip and upgrade to this new version.

We reported yesterday that December 11th will see the CBS/Paramount release of JAG - The Complete Series: Collector's Edition, with all 10 seasons of the show. We didn't have certain details for you at the time, but today the studio has revealed that this 56-disc collection includes all existing special features from the individual season sets, plus an EXCLUSIVE bonus disc of special features, including a newly created featurette called "The Jagged Edge." Also included is an exclusive gold replica of JAG Challenge Coin (pictured in the package art, shown again below), and the previously-mentioned 40 Page "Manual" (collectible booklet), which we're told is packed with Military History, JAG info, cast biographies, trivia and fun facts. Along with the collectible packaging, this new bonus disc sounds like the best way that CBS DVD could possibly entice even passionate fans of the show to double-dip on the season sets they've already probably bought. At least that way they're making it worthwhile to consider upgrading.

That's awesome they're doing this. I can finally toss my VHS copy of the Sci-Fi Channel rerun. While it's never that much fun to double dip, especially since the entire series can be picked up for $15 in some outless while the seasons are $20 a pop, the new releases are single sided rather than double. That alone got me to rebuy the first season. I happen to enjoy the second season, so I was gonna get it anyway, but this is icing on the polyester cake.

I consider myself a passionate fan of M:I. I purchased every season,
including the two seasons from the late 80's. But that bonus disc
and weird packaging is NOT enough to get me to double dip.

TGG Direct is a relatively new "player" in the TV-on-DVD field, and we've recently gotten in touch with them to begin finding out more about their offerings so we can fill in you, our readers. Today Amazon.com (see button link below) has begun listing a new TGG title: Sea Hunt - 24 Hour Television Marathon, an 8-DVD collection priced at just $29.96 SRP. It will be available soon, on October 23rd

Recently we reported about an exciting "best of" DVD release from TGG of the classic Lloyd Bridges series. Fans were excited about it, but wanted to know when they could buy season sets instead. Never fear, because the studio has told us to expect all four seasons of the show, sold separately, on DVD before the end of this year! Actually, huge e-tailer Amazon is already showing Sea Hunt - Season 1, Season 2, Season 3 and Season 4 are all up for pre-order at just $16.95 SRP for each set. Unfortunately, the November 6th date Amazon is displaying currently on all 4 items would be incorrect, TGG informs us. The studio is still finishing these up, and hope to have them available starting in Late November, they tell us. Package art and a specific date aren't here just yet, but stay tuned and we'll update you as further developments occur!
