Does anyone know more about this one? I don't believe this score has been released on a legitimate CD before, right?

I saw this pop up yesterday at soundtrack collector. Looks like a combination of the Chico Hamilton & Elmer Bernstein soundtrack albums from Decca.

It's funny because I was just saying that on the new Jerry Goldsmith Early Years cd, I thought The Line Up sounded a lot like SSOS.

In any case, I've never seen this soundtrack on cd before. I wouldn't hesitate getting it. It's one of my favorites by Bernstein. Just hope SAE has it when it's released.

Isn't EL one of these labels which abuses the European copyright holes ??

What holes?

This looks like one of those Euro releases that skirt the boundaries of copyright law, like DRANGO and 5000 FINGERS OF DR. T.

If you see the name Cherry Red or El you don't need to be surprised. It will be mastered from the best available sources, i.e. LP. Perfectly legal back there, but really won't be much different, sound-wise, than the previous perfectly illegal release.

Perfectly legal back there...

Word.

Again, I aplaud these labels for reissuing music which the majors are too bone-headed to release.

The Bernstein releases of the past year were brought to us by Film Score Monthly, Intrada and Varese Sarabande.

And I suppose it's no wonder to see this relase now in January 2008 since the movie was made 1957.

Perfectly legal. Are these SSOS albums available anyplace else? If not, many thanks to Cherry Red.

Well, ended up buying Dr. T, so I guess I'll pick up SWEET SMELL OF SICCESS, too.

I think that no one ever said that label such as one from the aforementioned wouldn't release it; take a look at home many 'prominent' scores are just getting released now (Land of the Pharaohs). How do you know that it wasn't on some label's schedule ? I suppose now it's much less likely to happen.

Then being that the 50 year public domain law is indeed LAW in Europe, maybe the US based labels you listed need to prioritize their releases based on when scores enter public domain. if they snooze, that's life.

It appears, Onya, that this disc is using the Decca LP cover artwork with no insertion of the Verve logo. Not aiding matters, the Verve Label Group site offers no information accept how to subscribe to them.

Dusty Groove does have an entry for this, but it is already sold out:

It would be ironic if this legitimate release was sourced from LPs like all the others, because of burned up tapes at Universal Music Group.

I suppose that it's a good sign that the Amazon blurb says that this is "re-mastered and mixed." I don't imagine you can remix anything from an LP transfer.

Sound is excellent, from the original tape masters. Certainly not an LP "rip" like all the various boots.

Verve is also reissuing a re-mastered and expanded FUNNY FACE, featuring Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn (doing her own vocals).

On another edition of this there is a cut called "Jonalah" which is not listed on this CD.
